Fuck relative clauses in the eye with a stick. Ugh.

But I finished my Tetsuo cloak last night! All but for the bottom hems, which don't actually need to be done considering the cloak is supposed to be in somewhat ragged condition anyway. I might redo one seam that was the last to be done last night, mostly because I kind of half-assed that one. I was tired and I just thought of putting it there, since I've been making this up since I finished the body of the cloak. There isn't exactly a pattern for a Tetsuo cloak, and I didn't entirely want to just do a rectangle of fabric, I wanted something a little more put together. But I can unpick that later and tack it down properly and re-sew it properly, so. And then lower edge hems! And. That's it.

Today, god, I need to fucking finish drafting Gods and Monsters, but that seems to be the usual Tuesday refrain. Once I get these costumes done maybe that'll be less of a Tuesday refrain and more of a Monday or even a Sunday refrain? Anyway, tonight's project is sewing the other cape, my Huntress cape, just getting the body done and then edging it with white later. And, heh, we'll see how long it ends up being. I swear I chopped length off the Tetsuo cape and somehow it ended up floor length anyway. Well, slightly above floor length once I'm done hemming it. But still. Goddamn.

So, that's tonight, actually most of the Huntress costume is this week except for little bits of other costumes that I'm finishing this week and holy hell this might even be mostly done by early next month. Bloody hell. Still boggled.

Not much new on other fronts, though. Exercise continues, writing continues, gardening continues. Poking and analyzing things continues. Languages continue, though not much of them yesterday on account of there was afternoon migraine. Hopefully today will be less migrainey and more productivey.

I've also been watching Orphan Black. I have Thoughts on Orphan Black, most of which amounts to "oh, hey, this really is good" and "oh you MOTHERFUCKERS" but that will wait till another time.

Well, THAT was a weekend. I did get blogging work done! I did not get writing done, that probably happens tonight, and Blood in the Gutters edits today during the day, but oh god I got so much non-writing related things done this weekend.

For starters, since the boy brought home two new tomato plants we went on Saturday morning to the hardware store and got two more tomato cages and a couple new cucumbers to replace the ones I killed, and two giant bags of potting soil since I was replanting the tomatoes in two of the bigger pots. And somehow this led to me deciding all right, I'll just replant all the fucking tomatoes in holes with much more potting soil for morebetter growing, and I ended up using an entire damn 32 quart bag of potting soil replanting all our tomatoes. So hopefully I haven't killed them and now hopefully they'll grow morebetter. They're alive and reasonably well, to be sure, and one of them even has a little tomatolet on it, but the're nowhere near as big as they should be, even allowing as I've been watering them properly now.

So, that happened for most of Saturday morning, then in the afternoon I ran both pairs of jeans shorts and the shirt I'd ripped the sleeves off through a dye bath to make them bright yellow. Which worked REALLY well. The only thing that didn't entirely work was that the snaps or something on the jean shorts left residue on the fabric, so either I need to paint over that with yellow fabric paint (which I have anyway, so) or ... something. It might wash out once I start washing it, after I fix the dye. Insufficient salt. But god, the yellow turned out even and PERFECT for Faye Valentine. And I painted the headband already, and that also needs to be fixed but that's easy enough, and. Something. I forget what.

I started the Tetsuo arm build and realized that that's going to turn out to be much more complicated but I think I've found a way to rig it. The coax cable was much more difficult to wrangle than I'd anticipated, but it works exceedingly well as a frame. I sewed one length down the sleeve and I think that'll be the only full length cable I use. Then two or three more chunks of cable along the lower arm, and bundles of phone cable. And then I'll take a couple lengths of pantyhose and fill that with wool for stuffing and bulk and use that for fleshy bits. Sew it all on, paint it up a bit, hopefully it'll turn out as good as it it looks like in theory? And if not, on Sunday I managed to build say 70-80% of the cape, which I'll finish tonight, so I can just do the Tetsuo with both normal arms. Or possibly dripping blood off one arm, you never know. I'm sure there's a way to make a gaping arm wound look real, and I can experiment with that in August.

And I also cut and started basting my Huntress cloak, and I tried on those boots and they fit ... well enough? The sole feels funny, I'll probably have to put insoles in it. It's the oddness of not having heels, I think. Never thought I'd find myself wishing for heels! But I have spare insoles from my many other boots that I needed to walk around in all day, so that'll work. And. All in all, I'm on track to have all my costumes done for Dragon*Con and WHAT IS THIS MADNESS. THIS IS NOT SPARTA I AM LOST. (But having a great deal of fun.)

Well. That was fun. And by fun I mean I'm so, so fucking tired of being a woman in a world that traditionally hates, loathes, and mistreats women. On the plus side, even if it's a morbid plus side, if I memorize this in Russian and German and maybe a couple other languages, I can be more helpful in an emergency?

And part of this was started by yet another post by another woman talking about how she is pushed on by men every day, and another part of this was surprisingly inspired by Kickstarter apologizing and making some pretty decent reparations, including a donation to RAINN that almost doubled what the guy got on his Kickstarter. It's definitely a start, and I appreciate that they did the donating thing unprompted and as part of the initial apology; far too often the donation comes after someone apologizes. And it looks like a real apology, too, so. Yay!

God, that fucking guy. I'm assuming you all have heard of this. Cutting for those of you who, like me, might be weary of all the misogyny in the world. )

Here, have some song lyrics so you can scroll down past the cut text without seeing it.

o/~ When we grow up will I be pretty
Will you be big and strong
Will I wear dresses that show off my knees
Will you wear trousers twice as long
Well I don't care if I'm pretty at all
And I don't care if you never get tall
I like what I look like, and you're nice small
We don't have to change at all

When we grow up will I be a lady
Will you be an engineer
If I have to wear things like perfume and gloves
I can still pull the whistle while you steer
Well I don't care if I'm pretty at all
And I don't care if you never get tall
I like what I look like, and you're nice small
We don't have to change at all

When I grow up I'm gonna be happy
And do what I like to do
Like making noise! And making faces.
And making friends like you.
And when we grow up do you think we'll see
That I'm still like you and you're still like me
I might be pretty, you might grow tall
But we don't have to change at all

I don't wanna change, see, 'cause I still wanna be your friend. For ever and ever and ever and ever...o/~

And now we feel better. Okay, Free to Be You And Me always makes me feel better anyway.

Slowly ripping this sleeve off for building things, and it's making me realize I'm going to need to attach straps to it somehow. Oops. Straps that can go under my arm and maybe around my neck, I need the internet to help me, I think, so that this sleeve that's suddenly going to be very heavy can stay hooked onto me and not fall off. First, though, I need to see what the shape of the sleeve will be when I'm starting out with it. Argh. I'm nervous and I really want this to work because otherwise I have no idea what I'm going to do. I mean, okay, I do, I'll just do the t-shirt and jeans and cape and do some seriously strung out looking makeup and that'll be it, but still argh! I'm really nervous and I want this to work, okay? Okay.

Well, at least I won't have long to wait to find out if this works or not. There's time blocked out for it this weekend. Tomorrow, actually. So! Progress on all the costumes, it's happening!

Oh Irish. Why are you so weird. I mean, as always, weird is relative and in this case means "structured in a way I'm not used to." Thus, oh Irish (language), why are you so weird.

Also it is ridiculously humid out, and somehow I can't seem to connect to the weather website. The fuck is up with this morning.

Of course it's all fun and games until I get in to work and it's chaos and noise. And yet somehow? Still managed to get out today's Gods and Monsters on time. Or, well, I will because it's all in and scheduled now. Because who's awesome? I'm awesome. So, yes, that's that done, and I picked up the ridiculous number of fixtures and hooks and tools and things we inherited from Grandpa this morning, along with what might be a couple hundred feet of phone cable for my new Tetsuo arm. Along with yardage of fabric for Tetsuo's cape cloak thingie, yardage of nylon webbing for Huntress's belt and clips to go with, and more tailor's chalk because apparently I don't have any anymore. Or if I do it's hiding very well, since I just dug through most of my craft boxes. I say dug through rather than cleaned out because I didn't sort it very well, but I still would have remembered tailor's chalk, it goes in the portable kit.

So, yes, my brain is still churning along with the "make ALL the costumes!" tangent. But on the plus side my pants are hemmed and all my immediate writing deadlines are taken care of, which gives me some time to do some of that costuming when I'm not at work. Or, depending on what the costume bits are, even when I am at work. We'll see.

Why no, I'm not excited about Dragon*Con at all. Why would you say that. Oh! Tonks is also going to be at Dragon*Con. Just in case anyone wanted to know that. I gotta go calm my brain down from squee mode into organize things mode.

For my own edification and organization, nothing to see here, move right along. (I need a costumes icon, I seriously do.)

Not only did I get Person of Interest done last night, I got a draft of the next Gods and Monsters done. Sometimes I amaze even myself. Then I usually sleep like a rock because exhausted. So, according to today's calendar, I'm spending the better part of this morning editing (read: adding in that one scene I only noted down because I wasn't sure it should go in there) and the better part of the afternoon editing Blood in the Gutters. Awesome.

Slowly, very slowly knocking down shit on my to-do list such that it's manageable again. Which is kind of a miracle, honestly. Or at least I feel like it's manageable again, which is mostly the important thing, as long as I'm keeping track of everything. Mending is happening, costume bits are being pulled together. I need to either finish or rebuild my Tetsuo arm because, hilariously, over the weekend the boy started pulling down some extraneous wiring and cable from the exterior of the house. At which point I blinked, looked at pictures of Tetsuo, and decided that would make the awesomest Tetsuo arm ever. So instead of painted veiny mutant thing which, honestly, did kind of look fairly horrible, I'm going to have covered in cables mutant sleeve thing. Seriously, this is going to be awesome. Hilarious and awesome. I just need a new pair of pantyhose to cut up and fuck up for the base. But, yeah, that's happening, I dug through the garage some more and found whole other chunks of costume boxes, so that can get sorted over the weekend. I might end up going through my project boxes and seeing which ones need to be scrapped (anything that involves my body and a relatively close fit, since I seem to have changed shape a bit) and which ones can still be finished. (Cloaks and the like) and then schedule out time to finish those. Oi, so many craft projects. Also with the random urge the other day to make a bracelet.

Also also with the random urge the other day to watch Poltergeist, the Legacy. Seriously, is that a TV show anyone remembers? I used to love that show. I don't remember what it was like anymore, not at all, but I used to love that show.

I need to update my calendar, though. I need to sort through and figure out what all I need to do over the next couple weeks, then sort through the calendar and slap it all up there. Oi, so many things to keep track of. Now that I'm not focused on the one next immediately due I think it's all starting to pile on. Which just means I need to be more careful about one thing at a time, slow steps, etc. One thing at a time. I swear I can do this. Or at least, somehow manage to juggle everything so that nothing gets too fucked up. Really. She said, promptly getting distracted on wondering how the fuck to french seam both ends of a pair of panty hose. Such is my life. Also, why do I not have an Akira icon.
