Genitive case!
Ich habe mit dem Sohn des Bäckers gesprochen. I talked to the baker's son.
Das ist die Frage eines Kindes. That is a child's question.
Die Farbe der Wände gefällt mir. I like the color of the walls.

English shows possession or other close relationships by adding 's to a noun or by using a phrase with of. English generally uses the 's form only for persons. For things and ideas, English uses the of construction.

German uses the genitive case to show possession or other close relationships. The genitive is used for things and ideas as well as for persons. The genitive generally follow it modifies.

die Freundin von meinem Bruder (meines Bruders)
zwei von ihren Freunden (ihrer Freunde)
ein Freund von Thomas (Thomas' Freund)

In spoken german the genitive of possession is frequently replaced by von + dative.

Day One of Mail Order Retail Sale Hell down. Nine more days to go! Some of those days being weekends and Thanksgiving where I won't have a damn clue what's coming at me. FUN. I'm all right, I have a pile of food cooked, cookies for treats, and I think I'm managing to keep organized so far.

Managing to keep my head afloat on writing, too, which is nothing short of a miracle. Started pounding out chunks of actual stuff on the SPN fic, as opposed to background material, seriously I think there might need to be a deleted scenes thing in this or something. Did some more on BigBang Mixup which, hopefully, will go a lot faster now that I have the overall storyline laid out. If I'm very very good I can send a draft to my mixer by the end of the week. Sorely tempted to finish emails out here and just take the last twenty minutes of work and write some more, which I might do. Nothing can go out for a bit and I'm freaking exhausted and brain dead.

Still waiting on my Yuletide assignment, which I think is actually due to come in tonight, so this is just anticipatory nail-biting. Which will probably go on until I get it and the pinch hits start going out. Yes, I am still a lunatic. Last year I did twenty freaking one stories for Yuletide. I don't think I'm going to make matching or beating that a goal, but I'm definitely saving all the pinch hits I can for stories to upload later, even if I don't officially get them. What can I say? Yuletide inspires me.

I should work on a editing/publication schedule for my original work, but, after this sale ends and the backorders are dealt with. After after. Much after. Right now it's survival mode.
