Hey, internets. I have a question.
So, I'm trying to redo our felting fiber kits. And these are the colors we have. I was going to leave the main one, which is very primary colors but isn't very interesting necessarily to kids, since we have a lot of bright colors. But since I was restocking the pinks and purples I had this thought that I could make up kid packs. SO! A poll. A non-LJ-style poll, since I want to try and do some discussion on this. Do I:
A) Make up two packs, one of the stereotypical barbie pink purple blue white colors, and call it something like Ponies and Princesses pack or what the hell ever, My Little Pony pack, and one of Red FuckingBRightYellow CookieMonsterBlue (no shit, it looks like Cookie Monster) and all those other colors and call it Giant Robots pack or something knockoff of Transformers or maybe the muppets.
B) That's too sexist, make up just one pack of bright colors and call it a kids' pack.
C) Make up three or four packs! One of princessy Barbie colors, one of screaming robot colors, one of gothy black and midnight blue and russet and clockpunk colors, one of something else entirely, and let the kids choose what they enjoy.
D) Something I haven't thought of here yet.
The problem with this balancing act here is, I'm trying not to reinforce gender stereotypes (really, it'd probably just be ponies and unicorns) and yet I'm trying to be marketable in a way that the average public person will understand. Which, sadly, means catering to a certain amount of societally imposed gender standards. I don't know how many packs I'll be able to convince people we need, but I'm betting at least two, unless I do go with just OMG BRIGHT COLORS ALL THE BRIGHT COLORS. Even so, I'm betting some kid will be all "but it has piiiiiink. I don't want piiiiiink." Or whatever.
Thoughts? Ideas? I'm hoping to do this within the next few hours, because this of course just occurred to me in the middle of a fucking festival weekend, but if I even get it going before next weekend it'll be all right, because next weekend is Bele Chere, and there WILL be kids. Which is sort of like There Will Be Blood, only with more pain and less blood. I hope.
