I take back everything I said about the Rapture guy. Something Apocalyptic is definitely going on. It's just slow starting. A shambling Apocalypse and not Resident Evil Apocalypse.
So, last week on, I think... Tuesday. A car catches on fire in front of the store. Well, one storefront down, but in front of. Three firemen, one with an axe, a fire truck, and a whole lot of water and foam later, it's out. Poor car owner. Then the compressor in the air conditioning unit for the building goes, fills the building with smoke. Twice. This is a big building. In mild but notable for the relation to things burninating, my toaster temporarily breaks and starts smoking. I clean the crumb tray and shake it out over the trash a bit and it works much better now.
But last night as I was leaving work, there was a torrential downpour and the loudest crack of thunder I have ever heard. It sounded like a metal table had crashed through a glass wall. Or worse. Well, thunderstorms happen in the summer, they usually last for 30 minutes and then taper off to drizzle. As I was leaving work I saw three cop cars, a fire truck, and a bus on the sidewalk of the park down the street. Ugh, rain-related accident, I think. I hope no one got hurt. Come to find out this morning, the fucking bus spontaneously caught fire. For those keeping score, that's three things spontaneously smoking and/or combusting within a one and a half block radius. On the same street.
My life is being directed by Michael Bay. Stop that, Michael Bay.
... Oh god, Michael Bay isn't directing the Hunger Games, is he?
No, apparently he's not. Someone I've never heard of who directed Pleasantville is. I wouldn't mind us turning all black and white for a little while if it would get rid of the freaking random combustion.
In less flammable news, I hope, the list of people who are not Bruce Boxleitner attending Dragon*Con has increased! Including, and I think I mentioned this one before, Norman Reedus. Yes, the second Murphy brother from Boondock Saints is coming to Dragon*Con. What does this have to do with sci-fi, you ask? I have no idea. I don't care. We also have Katey Sagal aka Gemma Teller-Morrow (aka Leela from Futurama), Martin Landau, Gary Kurtz (production, not acting), and Ernest Fucking Borgnine. I don't know why. But it's awesome. We also have a number of vampire diaries and Being Human (US) actors, too, apparently, but since I don't watch those I have no idea who they are. Sorry, guys.
