Oh my god, oh my god, oh my FUCKING GOD.
With the exception of about ... no, I'm not going to say, it wasn't as bad as it could have been but it made me cringe. One meal at an expensive restaurant, I have not regretted a single purchase I have made at this con. It's been about as expensive as Dragon*Con if not a little more, but goddamn I do not regret it. I regret nothing. I have a steady income, and I still have a fair bit of birthday money I wasn't counting on, I'm not (which is a GOOD thing because for Dragon*Con I usually do) going into ANY debt over it and OH MY FUCKING GOD THIS IS AWESOME. I GOT PHOTOS WITH BOYS. I NEVER GET PHOTOS OF MYSELF.
So, we got there. We got there stupid early because Ali had to work, but it's okay because I got to hang out and meet con line buddies. I actually ended up meeting con line buddies from the previous night, who were sitting at my breakfast table. That was kind of fun, even if the breakfast plates were really tiny. Like, biscuit plates. Then Jared and Jensen came out, they were adorable as usual. I won't tell you too much about that because you can find it all over the place probably by now, but suffice to say Jared has a twitter. Jared has probably crashed twitter several times by now because of how many followers he has. Jared was a good sport in the beginning but I think he got tired of it by the end of the day.
There isn't really much going under this cut, actually, because most of the morning was spent either hanging around the Opryland place (I have pictures, I swear, they'll go up eventually) or sitting and waiting for the breakfast. I didn't get any of the J&J special stuff because, well, that's a little more expensive than even I'm willing to pay even with birthday money, and I got complimentary autographs anyway. So I went and wandered around, had a decent burger and some Haagen-Daas. And then wandered around some more and took some pictures and went and saw the Jared and Jensen thing.
That was really cute. Again, I'm sure there's video of it around somewhere. Highlights that I particularly remember were the debate on whether the action "to send a twitter message" is to twit or to tweet. Jensen managed to get the audience to agree on tweet. At which point when Jared returned to the issue he mimed texting on his phone and was all "No. TWEET. *mimes* TWIT. *points to Jared*" I love you Jensen. I really do. More highlights are probably online in video form, I didn't bother. I went and gt Jensen's autograph, alas, they didn't let us personalize it and Jensen was speeding through them pretty efficiently. Jared I didn't get it personalized but he was much more willing to be outgoing and take a moment. So I asked him Whyyy? Why are you on Twitter? Have you learned nothing from Misha and the eggs? At which point he said Misha (and Sebastian!!) talked thim into it. At which point I told him not to let Misha talk him into anything.
So, then I went up to the photo op with Matt Cohen. Who is adorable. He was all snuggly but they were very quick, I didn't do much and I couldn't think of much of anything pithy to say. Then I went and sat down with some people and made line buddies. I did see Jared and Jensen wandering around there, too, I think for a concert. Jensen was with some staff and trying to get into the door, but didn't say much of anything. Jared was on his phone walking down the hall. I told him to stop tweeting, and he looked up and over at me/the gaggle of people I was with and said "It's wiki/wifi/??wharrrgarbl??, I swear." I have no idea what he was swearing to, but he was really funny and adorable.
Then I went down, around, wandered a bit, came back up, got in line for Richard and Matt duo. Got my picture with them both, it took the photographer a second to get everything arranged so they were all "Yeah, we'll just stand here" and I was all "yeah, I get hugs from two hot guys" and they were all "yeah, so there you go." Scintillating conversation, really, but that was the gist of it and they were adorable. THEN in line for Richard Matt went by and I told him he owed me a hug. Some of you may remember that I tweeted him about an appointment for a hug, I don't think he heard that part of the explanation, but he did reach around a pillar to give me a hug. It was really sweet. I got my hugs later, at the after party.
So, then. Oh god, then. Richard Speight Jr's photo. First, the girl(s?) ahead of me had a tiara on one f their heads. They put it on Richard's head. So I called up to him, he feels pretty, oh so pretty. Which apparently cued him to mouth the next few lines along. And then, oh god, then. Then I walked up, I had about a second or two worth of time and I put it to good advantage by asking him if he had Mjolnir in his pants. Because inquiring courtesans wanted to know. He actually had me repeat it. I thought he couldn't think of an answer, but it turned out it was something else later.
I went down to dinner, to relax a bit. Had a margarita and some really tasty enchiladas. (I have ahd more red meat at this con, I swear, but hopefully not so much tomorrow.) Came back up, hung around, ran and got food for poor Ali, who was starving, sat around for a concert by Brian Buckley and then went to check if our pictures with Richard and Matt were done. Alas, they weren't. So, THEN I got in line for Richard and Matt's autographs. Matt didn't personalize either, apparently that's a thing with this con. (Oh, somewhere in there there was a costume contest that Id din't win, but I was the only Pam, so I was still the best Pam.) BUT. Richard fucking Speight Jr was all "So, you asked me something but I didn't understand it." And I was all "Okay, so, you know the middle stage of your character was Loki, right? And you know what Mjolnir is" and he was all ".. actually, no." So I actually had to EXPLAIN, as quickly as I damn well could, not only that bit of Norse mythology but also the reference to Hiddleston and the movie and the thingie. And then he signed my picture "I have WHAT in my pants?" And now I have t get another normal signature so I can put that in my book and the other one on my wall because, goddamn. That is either the best or second best signature EVER.
I managed to convince Ali (not that it took much) to join me for the late night cocktail party that turned into damn near a rave. We all went over and sat and talked and made line buddies until it was time to go in, at which point I made a beeline for a front table. Which turned out to be the best thing ever.
First we got Brock Kelly, about whom I knew very little except that he played young Dean. He turned out to be an absolute darling. He was really sweet, gave lots of hugs, he sat, we chatted... goddamn, I don't remember anything of what I said to him. I spoke to him and Richard and Matt as they sat with us for about a minute, and made eye contact and everything. I was pretty proud of myself for that.
Then, eventually, we did get Richard. I did not, alas, have occasion to ask him for a dance (which it turned out wouldn't have done any good anyway because he wasn't planning on staying) but since he'd signed the cleavage of a brunette and a redhead earlier, one of whom was at our table, he called over the other one and got pictures with both of them. Then I leaned over and told him all he needed was a blonde to have a matched set. There were birthday hugs around for a couple of the girls, and they talked some. I did not, as I'd hoped, bring up the issue of what he had in his pants again. I did ask if he was going to stay around for the dance party after, at which point he said no, he did need to sleep sometime. (I tried to convince him that that wasn't true, but he wasn't buying.)
THEN we got Matt. We got Matt AFTER half my table, and about that many women again from other tables all came up to the dance floor and started dancing. I am ashamed/proud to say I started this, with dragging Ali and another person whose name now escapes me up to dance to Running Down A Dream. The DJ started out with classic rock, but it quickly turned into pop I don't know and have no idea how to dance to. I kept an eye on our table until Matt came around, at which point everyone raced back and sat down. I came over and draped an arm around his shoulders (he asked if it was my seat, oops) and I said no, but could we persuade him to come out and dance with us? Alas, we could not. He said he had a minute and change to have the best conversation ever, and I looked him straight in the eye and said any conversation with you is the best ever. And he grinned at me and said good answer, like you do, and then we talked a bit. And then one of the girls challenged him to a jerk contest (apparently that's a dance, I don't know, they looked a bit like they were having a seizure) whereupon followed a flurry of jerk off puns. Then we all got up and danced for maybe another HOUR. THEN Ali and I finally went home, but not before we both a) got hugs from Richard and Matt again, and b) got to turn around and see Matt actually doing that jerk contest thing.
In short, OMFG IT WAS AWESOME AND IT IS ALL TOTALLY WORTH IT.
