3. Words from roots
бывший -- former, from был
вылет -- departure by plane. The root лёт has to do with flying (cf. самолёт, plane) The prefix вы- usually means out. See полёт below.
золотоносный -- gold-bearing. What, then, were золотоносные шахты?
поездка -- по + ездить
проживание -- жив. What, then, does the phrase проживание в отеле mean? Stay in a hotel? Yes.
полёт -- flight. The root лёт has to do with flying (cf. самолёт, plane)
приземление -- landing: при = arriving, замля = land or earth
проголодаться -- голодный hungry. What, then, does the verb mean? I have no idea. Become hungry? To hunger? Become hungry, yes.
размещение -- место What, then, does the phrase размещение в отеле mean? Check into a hotel, at a guess.
расстояние -- distance: рас = apart (dis-) стоять = stand, стояние = stance
современный -- со + время = "con" + "temp" What is the English equivalent? (I seriously have no idea because my mind leaps right to 'contempt' and I know that's not right.) Contemporary. ... You know, I would have gotten that a lot sooner if they hadn't used "temp" and used 'temporal' or something instead. Or... well. Never mind.

городок (чего -- городка) -- небольшой город
отель -- гостиница. Find the word отель in the text. What gender is it and how can you tell? Well, you can tell by the endings, obviously, so the gender is... Masculine?

5. Number compounds.

однодневный -- In what context is одноневная экскурсия used?
двухместный -- What is проживание в двухместных номерах? Stay in a two-person/place room. And no, I don't think there are three person rooms. Or, well, not traditionally. At Cons you get up to eight-person rooms. >.> (Hint: Would it be more desirable/expensive to feature проживание в одноместных номерах or трёхместных номерах? Is there such a thing as трёхместные номера in American hotels?)

Work today! Which might be a good thing because I was starting to go stir crazy. A little late, but work is happening. Boy turned in his application and letters of rec and all to the care facility yesterday, which was nice. Apparently it used to be a sanitarium. And it looks it, too. Boy has said that if he gets this job (which is a pretty good chance, I hope) he'll ask people if they have ghost stories or urban legends or something. I wouldn't mind getting a look in there, too. See if they've updated anything or if it still looks like a sanitarium on the inside.

So, apparently James Franco was in town over New Year's Eve and no one told me. Grrargh. Admittedly, it was probably too snowy to really make going up the mountain desirable, I think, but still! Argh!
