To tell someone to perform a single complete action one time, use a perfective/simple verb.

To tell someone to do something continuously or repeatedly, use an imperfective/continuous verb.
Всегда говорите правду! Always tell the truth.
Говорите по-русски на занятиях русского языка. Speak Russian in Russian (language) class.
Занимайтесь три часа каждый день. Study three hours every day.
Читайте немного каждый день. Read a little every day.
Пишите упражнения аккуратно. Write the exercises carefully. (AHAHAHAHAH.)

To tell someone not to do something, use an imperfective/continuous verb.
Не говорите об этом. Don't talk about that.
Не смотрите этот фильм. Don't see that movie.
Не читайте эту газету. Don't read this newspaper.
Не пишите письма на лекции. Don't write letters in class.

A few commands, usually polite invitations, are almost always given in the imperfective/continuous.

Садитесь! Have a seat.
Входите! Come in.
Приезжайте! Come for a visit (from out of town)
Приходите! Come for a visit (from within town)

2. Надо написать письмо! Напиши письмо!

Oh wow. My books are synching up, apparently it's Imperatives time.

God. Yesterday was pretty insane at work, today might be shaping up to be the same way. Thank god there's no UPS incoming today, so I don't have to deal with that. Just whatever orders come my way and a whole lot of running back and forth from the front to the back, probably. Along with some spinning and editing. Maybe. Ugh.

I keep forgetting how much slower editing is for me than writing. Or maybe it's not editing, or maybe it is, I don't know. Maybe I'm being too nit-picky? I don't think I'm more nit-picky about other people's work than I am about my own. Argh! I think this is what Imposter Syndrome feels like.

Anyway. Crazy day at work, here's hoping I get time to sit down and do the language stuff and maybe even some writing stuff. And after work, RED. Because Helen Mirren with a machine gun is always the right answer. And now I need to make an icon like that "Tea, Dammit!" icon only with Helen Mirren. With a machine gun.
