Мы занимались. Both continuous, same reason as above.
4. Володя ещё показывает слайды?
Нет, уже всё показал. Может быть, он тебе покажет их завтра. Simple. Refers to a completed action.
5. Ты читала «Анна Каренину»? Continuous. Refers to an action that may or may not have taken place at an indeterminate previous time.
Да, я её читала, когда ещё чуилась в институте. Same, although the action is narrowed down to a less general previous time, still indeterminate and possibly not completed.
6. В среду Анна купила новое платье. Continuous. Simple. That's the simple one, Jag. Remember it! :) Completed action that took place at some point Wednesday.
7. Мы долго читали этот роман. Наконец мы его прочитали. Continuous, then simple. Refers to a progressing action, then an emphasized to be completed one.
8. Что вы делали в субботу? Continuous. Again with the unspecified time.
