Österreich liegt in Mitteleuropa und ist nur etwa so groß wie Maine, ein bisschen größer als die kanadische Provinz Neubraunschweig. Heute leben ungefähr acht Millionen Menschen dort. Die meisten Menschen, 1,5 Millionen, leben in Wien, der Hauptstadt. Seit 1995 gehört Österreich auch zur Europäischen Union.
Austria lies in central Europe and is just about as large as Maine, and a bit bigger than the Canadian provice of Newfoundland. Today approximately a million people [term used 'men'?] live there. Most of the people, 1.5 million of them, live in Vienna, the capital. In 1995 Austria joined the European Union.
Wahrscheinlich kennen Sie die meisten Österreich-Klischees schon. Sie sind nicht nur wahr, sondern meistens auch positiv. Nehmen wir zum Beispiel das Klischee Österreich – das Land der Musik. Ein letztes Klischee ist das gemütliche Österreich. Uberall gibt es Cafes, in denen man gemütlich sitzen, Kaffee trinken und gute Torten essen kann. Dort trifft man seine Freunde oder liest die Zeitung und bleibt so lange, wie man will.
One last cliche is the comfort of Austria. Overall there are cafes, in which one may sit in comfort, drink coffee and eat good tortes. There one meets ones friends or reads the newspapers and stays as long as one wants.
