It's time to write to my congressmen again.

God this amendment crap makes me want to puke. Leaving aside all manner of ranting on the anti-gay poiltical movement, who the hell in their right mind thought it was a good idea for Bush to push an amendment that discriminates? All manner of slippery slope analogies come to mind. I think Ted Kennedy said that he's the first president in history to try and reintroduce discrimination into the Constitution (I know it's Ted Kennedy, and I think that's the gist of what he said) and he's right! WHat the fuck?

More, though, I'm pissed at all you people who are sitting on your asses out there going "This will never pass." You know what? They did a poll on my area last night on the news. 58% of locals said they thought it was a good idea. Does that terrify you? It should. What if your local news did a similar poll? What would your results be? I almost guarantee the result would shock you.

I'm not saying this to you specifically, but just the Americans out there in general. GET OFF THE COUCH. Write your congresssman. Write your local representatives. Hell, write the White House if you want. Get out there and make your voice heard. Remind Bush that you cannot make a Constitutional fucking amendment to discriminate against any group of people. I don't care how biased you are, I don't care what your prejudices are, I don't care what your religion dictates. That goes against everything this country was founded for and I bet every last one of the signers on the Declaration of Independance is generating enough electricity from spinning in his grave to power the city of New York.

You have to get up now, and you have to go write your congressman. Write someone in power. Write anyone. I don't want to hear that you can't find an envelope, can't find a stamp, don't know what to say. Hell, I'll post a goddamn form letter up on this journal as soon as I figure out what I want to say, probably later today. You can copy that down if you want. Go to your local post office, I dont' care how far in the boonies you are, go. Get the stamp, get the envelope if you have to beg on the street for the money. Make your voice heard.

You know what's going to happen if you don't? This amendment's going to pass. And then a few years later, maybe not in the next four years but the four years after, someone's going to make a law that prohibits gays and lesbians from adopting children. And maybe, you say, that's not such a bad thing (although if you're on my friends' list I don't know why the hell you'd say that, most of you don't believe it). But the law will get passed. And then, a few years later, a law will get passed for the 'protection of children and family' saying that unsuitable parents will have their children taken away. And by this point it won't just be in cases of abuse or neglect. It'll be people who aren't raising their children according to good _________ values.

And maybe also they've passed a law saying that mixed-race
marriages get less benefits too, why not? Have you counted the number of interracial relationships you see on tv or in the movies? Does anyone remember that the first interracial kiss was only forty years ago? That's still within our lifetime. So guess what? It's probably stil in danger. Especially if we pass this goddamn amendment. And it's going to pass because people are too fucking apathetic to get off their couches and make their voices heard, to go talk to the people in power and say, hey. This is wrong.

I can't believe this is fucking happening. I bet the population of Germany said Hitler would never get elected either. The builders of the Titanic said it would never sink. The Roman Emperors said their empire would never fall. And you know what? This discriminating, disgusting amendment will never pass either.

Uh-huh.
