Hell, I write smut. I write smut and occasionally don't even bother to put it behind an LJ-cut. Shock. Gasp. But since I do it over on GreatestJournal I doubt anyone here's paid attention. I need to write more smut here. I need to finish the Marten/Eddie and Marten/Roland non-con I started. The first bits of it are posted in a previous entry, I'll try and finish it tomorrow so I can make the blacklist. And then I'll try and post some more. Likely a lot of it will be darkfic. I have a tendency to like bad men.
God. Wankers. This blacklist is such bullshit. We all remember some of the original blacklists, right? McCarthy Era? Uh-huh, I thought we did. Not to mention, since when did the responsibility for the education and preservation of children's welfare get passed on to people who have nothing to do with the children themselves? How am I responsible for the child of John and Jane Doe in Bumsville Idaho who just happened to be looking for people who like David Bowie, and who came across my diary and instead of reading all about my lack of job, my aspirations to being a writer, they chose to read the smut behind the LJ-cut clearly marked "Not for minors"?
Excuse me? When did I become the teacher for your kids about responsibility and common sense? I think not. I have enough problems dealing with my life, being responsible for my actions and their intended or unintended consequences, and keeping an eye on those I care about. I don't have the time, energy, patience, or inclination to be babysitting your children when you should be teaching them right from wrong.
Blacklist my ass. I wonder if these people know that half the smut in places like the Pit of Voles is written by minors. Probably not. Or if they are I doubt they care that that just might be a more serious problem than minors reading smut. I tell you, folks, it's not the writers that are the problem unless they're putting it up in big bold letters on the Times Square ticker or something equally in-your-face. fandom_scruples community who would rather censor, lock up, lojack, and inhibit. It's the people who think that instead of educating we need to be protecting, instead of guiding we need to be frog-marching. It's the not the people writing the smut, it's the people who want to drag us all kicking and screaming back to the Victorian era, repression and big sheets with little tiny rectangular slits in them, the diesel-powered vibrator, Freud, black bars, brown paper covers.
You know, I agree with Denis Leary. I can't believe I have to get angry about this shit! After reading some of the absolutely crap smut written by thirteen year olds I never thought I'd see the opposite extreme. Dear Goddess, haven't they heard of a happy medium? Evidently not. Haven't they heard of teaching your children that some places are better left until you can properly appreciate them, and meanwhile there's all sorts of other fun stuff you can do on the internet? Haven't they heard of, Goddess forbid, parental involvement? Guess not.
I hate you all. Stop poisoning my planet with my stupidity, people. Go shoot yourselves into space.
Addendum: Aahhahahahahahahah!!! The bints have Harry Potter on their interests list. Harry Potter, possibly one of the greatest fandoms for gratuitous smut on the world wide web. Oh, that makes me laugh. And then it makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a spork.
