Saw Peter Pan last night...

I think the most disturbing thing about it was the whole relationship between Peter and Wendy. There were so many moments when it was almost sexualized, almost adult, but not quite. Plus I'm not entirely sure about the message it was sending to kids, what their ideal boyfriend should be like. I certainly wouldn't want to date him. And then there was Hook, and there was this whole sick sort of thing going on between Wendy and Hook, and that was just... ugh.

But that was really the only part I didn't like about the film. Jason Isaacs was adorable as George Darling and adorably evil as Captain James Hook, not to mention the convincing performance as two very different characters was wonderful. Peter Pan was a psychotic little cute boy, as usual. Wendy was actually rather cool, I did like her. Tink was hilarious. The Indian ceremony to heal the wounded warrior was absolutely priceless; I was laughing so much at that.

And then, the entire way they portrayed NeverLand and Peter Pan and Wendy. There was something so familiar in it, so much like everything in my imagination. The way the weather changed. The whole business about the hidden kiss, and the resurrection of Tinkerbell. It was all very ... familiar, very resonant. It seemed to explain a great deal of what I keep writing down in my metastories. I'm not sure how to explain it more clearly than that.

I am so buying this movie when it comes out on DVD.

And my aunt e-mailed me about my stories... one of my aunts. And she liked them! My novels, the NanoNovels, she liked my stories! She's passing on samples to her author friend, and she gave me all sorts of good advice on getting stuff out there and everything and whatnot. And she said to submit things and stuff and ... well, there's not really much to recount but she said she liked it and that she thought I could do well at writing, and there just aren't words to describe how good that makes me feel.

I'm going to send her a couple chapters of an edited version of a couple stories, I think, and forward it to another aunt as well, so she can pass it on to another writer. I'm not sure which one to do, yet, I've got so many novels to chose from and edit and rewrite and send and it's all so very exciting! I spent a good ten minutes today bouncing around the living room like a maniac. Soooo excited.

Okay, back to editing. But... yay! So much yay. So happy. Such a wonderful start to the new year!
