kittydesade: (santa riddick!!)

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? - Usually wrapping paper. Sometimes just tissue paper. With tape. Lots of tape, if it's my mother helping me wrap. Sometimes stockings.

2. Real or Artificial tree? - Real when I was a kid, and then it was chopped for firewood at my Grandmother's. Both her tree and ours. These days it's artificial, because, cats. Also, I'm apparently horribly allergic to just one species of pine and I have no wish to spend another Christmas season hopped up on drugs. Still not sure what that was about, though.

3. When do you put up the tree? - Ummm. First week of December sometimes.

4. When do you take the tree down? - Whenever I recover from NYE. Although one year I tried to convince Mom to celebrate Three kings day just so I could get more presents. I think I was six.

5. Do you like Eggnog? I like eggnog taffy? And milkshakes?

6. Favorite Gift you received as a child? My ginormous polar bear stuffed animal. I had that thing till it turned gray and all the stuffing fell out. ALSO. The mysterious go-bots that disappeared into my grandmother's house when I was very little and they were never seen again. Whoever's living there now probably found a bunch of gobots still mint in package and I bet they sold them on ebay for lots. Bastards.

7. Do you have a nativity scene Yule log/altar set-up? Hell, I don't even have an altar. But I will! When I move into my own apartment. Yes.

8. Hardest person to buy for? Whoever doesn't want a gift card. :P

9. Easiest person to buy for? The boy. If it's not a game console system, it's whatever's on his wish list on Amazon. Easy peasy. Which reminds me... *goes a-clicking*

10. Worst Christmas gift ever received? I actually can't think of one. Probably anything my Dad's parents gave me, apart from gift certificates, as... they don't really know me. I think I saw them once a year, and that was when I was living in the same city. They also dragged me to Christmas mass once. Not one of the pretty ones with candles, singing, and people preaching love and happiness and forgiveness and good things. One of the boring, droning ones. Also, I was ten. I fell asleep.

11. Christmas Cards - LJ made me do them. Mostly Christmas/Yule cards, as I don't think I have anyone's address who celebrates Channukah.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Muppet Christmas Carol.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Randomly.

14. Have you ever "recycled" a Christmas present? A couple of times. White elephant parties my mother used to take me to, the same gifts would get recycled. It was funny. Kind of like a yearly game of pass the fruitcake.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? The candy house, after it's been made. Christmas cookies. MARZIPAN.

16. Clear lights or colored or both on the tree? Either, depending on the decorating style. Colored here at the boy's house, clear with multicolored pretty ornaments at home. Not sure what we're going to do at the apartment.

17. Favorite Christmas/Yule/Channukah Song? Um. Lots. Channukah O Channukah, because of the dancing to it. Hell's Bells, more properly titled Sarajevo 12/24. Most things by TSO. The Snows. Oh! Good King Wenceslas, which I have undoubtedly misspelled. We used to go caroling when I was in high school, and every year we'd stop by one house several houses up from my grandmother's. We'd knock on the door and separate into the two tenors, the girls, and the guy who either lived with his parents or visited them every holiday. He had the most wonderful bass voice and he always sang the part of the king and we loved him for it.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Stay home, most times. Although (sorry Californians!!!) the most ooky Christmas I ever spent was in Los Angeles at my aunt's place. After eightteen years of Christmases that were at least cold if not snowy, there's just something wrong about a Christmas in which I can run around in shorts and t-shirts and not be bothered. That said, I definitely did not mind spending Christmas and New Years' in London. Or Asheville. HEY. This year I can finally go to the upcoming Yule celebrations!

19. Can you name Santa's Reindeer? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen. Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen.

20. Do you have an Angel or a Star on top of your tree? *looks up* Angel. Usually it's a star. Sometimes it's a cat.

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning? Along with almost everyone else I know, we open one present on Christmas eve. Then we watch Muppet Christmas Carol (or I make the boy watch it). Then I annoy everyone by singing "One more sleep till Christmas" until I fall asleep.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? Christmas muzak.

23. Favorite Christmas tradition Where do I even BEGIN. Making firestarters out of crayons, wax, and pinecones. Making ... what was it, pomander oranges? Mom always called them cloven oranges. Tree decorating. Making gingerbread houses. Caroling and/or going to TSO. Which used to be going to the Christmas sing-a-long at the KenCen, but I don't know if they still do it. Watching The Nutcracker by the Bolshoi. Which I need to get on DVD. It's on my wish list somewhere, I need to pick it up. Watching A Muppet Christmas Carol, which still makes me cry. Making sugar cookies. Opening advent calendars. Dumping spare change into red kettles.

24. Family member you always try to stay away from during the holidays? None. I love my family.

25. Do you attend any actual religious services in celebration? I do a Yule ritual, but I've always been too far away to attend. Moving to Asheville? Not so much! WHEE!
