The Great Move
Dec. 4th, 2007 07:40 pmH'okay.
So-o. I give notice at work this Friday. The icing on the shit-tastic cake was being taken off emails because one of the email supervisors has apparently a mad hate on for me because I told her her training sucked. (It does. The boy and I have had to retrain half their trainees so that other people can follow what the hell they're doing and they're not just tossing off things willy nilly. All you people who have ever emailed customer service and said "My widget arrived broken." and gotten an email that said "Your doo-dad return was processed on X date"? Yeah, those are her trainees you're getting. Fucking morons.) ANYway. So, yeah. Giving notice on Friday. And then. Um.
The current plan is to pack up here and move a bunch of stuff down January 10th ish. Stay for a couple of days. The boy can hang around the town and see what it's like. I can get a PO box to forward my mail to and maybe set up a bank account. Look around the store, see if anything's changed, maybe pick up some apartment rental guides. Or a newspaper. Or all of the above. I'm not sure if I'll move down there permanently then or at the end of January. And I'm vacillating between being terrified out of my mind and being excited about the whole thing. Where's a Don't Panic icon when you need one.
* Double check E-check. Aunt E says M doesn't have to do E-check when he gets his car registered, and it's a '94. And mine's a '93 so that should work out, but double check anyway. That would be a hell of a thing to find out at the last minute.
* Insurance. What to do about that. Also, if the boy comes down later, should he bring the car since I would have a ride to and from work? Two, actually. Get the damn car a damn tune-up.
-- * Car insurance: See above
-- * Health insurance: EG offers Blue Cross to full-time employees. Wow. My first actual ever work-related health insurance having ever.
* Doctor. OBGYN, to be specific. Also the eye doctor, which would be a good thing to do, since I haven't been in a couple of years. Not that my prescription ever changes much, but. Eye doctor. That way I don't have to do it for another year.
-- * Planned Parenthood has a clinic within 2 miles from EG, yay! Make appointment.
* Pack. Sort through things. What goes down now, what can be shipped down, what goes down later. Books can probably be shipped Media Mail. The rest... not sure. Also depends on how much crap I have. There may need to be the renting of a truck of some kind. Oh, that's an idea. Since we usually rent a car for long road trips anyway, renting a truck one way and the boy can rent a car to go back up. If I move in one fell swoop. Something to discuss and look into.
* Make list of auto-pay bills and change info. Which, I think, is only my AntiVirus and LJ.
* Defer at least one college loan. The other, since it's only quarterly, I've just paid for this month and should only have to change the address on.
* Mail forwarding. Is a good thing.
* Put things up on ebay? That would be good to do now rather than later, if I'm going to. That way I get paid pretty quick and I can ship stuff off pretty easily. Without having to fuss over where I'm shipping from, etc.
Since I'm going to be living with my aunt for the first few months, looking into apartments and such can wait until I get there. Since I'm going to be working at the store, finding a job is... well, that's why I'm moving down there in the first place. Um. Hmm. I'm sure I'm mising something. This list will be added to as I think of it.
* Yuletide
* Have pie
Also worthy of note to all you out there in LJ land with whom I RP: This is a day job. A normal day job. With no computer access. Or rather, limited computer access and I'll be running around the store half the time anyway. So, most likely? Between the hours of 8 and 6-7 ish EST (I think? Gah, it's sad, I don't even remember what time zone I'd be in.) I will not be online. Why yes, this will suck monkey nuts, most likely. I will try to get up earlier in the morning? And I will have weekends. Actual weekends. Not weird fake one day or middle of the week weekends.
Right. And, um. The rest of this day will be devoted to panicking. Tomorrow, I set up a more specific day to day schedule, including panic time and veg out with TV and/or movie and/or kitty and book time. Also bookmarking this page so I can go back to my schedule.
