Title: See Me Feel Me
Fandom: Kingdom Hospital
Characters: Abel and Christa
Prompt: Beginnings
Word Count: 500
Rating: PG
Summary: Abel and Christa had been waiting for everything to fall into place.
Author's Notes:
Dr. Stegman called them feebs the first day he got there but he didn’t know what they knew. They only looked and sounded like they were simple which was what Dr. James called them because they weren’t really paying attention. Dr. Hook paid attention to them and saw that they always knew what was going on and what to bring and when to turn up and when to be away. There were secret reasons why they knew everything that was going on but mostly that had to do with the fact that they weren’t really paying attention. They were listening.
They didn’t listen to the same kinds of things that everyone else listened to. Everyone else, which meant all the people in the hospital who looked down at their papers or their shoes and kept rushing around with clipboards, listened to the beeping of the machines and the worried beating of their fearful hearts. They listened to the girl and her friend and both the girl and her friend told them secrets, sometimes one without the other. They were rarely one without the other, though. Like the two of them, the girl and her friend worked best as a team.
They spent most of their time in the basement or in other basement-type rooms and made sure that everything ran smoothly because if they let someone who wasn’t simple do it they’d only make a mess of things. They kept part of their mind on their work that was really as simple as they were and spent the rest of their attention on what was going on in the hospital. The important stuff, not the stuff everyone thought was important. Like the bad boy and the little girl and the bad doctor and the girl’s friend. And then, the artist.
When the artist came they were excited because they knew things would be different from now on. They knew things would be better and they knew he had come just in time because it wasn’t long now before the earth would shake hard enough to bring down the hospital. It was always shaking but it had only started to shake recently where people would notice and it was only recently that it had gotten dangerous. Something had to be done and the person who could help them do it had finally arrived. Things were really looking up in the Kingdom.
Of course it wasn’t going to be easy but they had known that for a while too. They had known that ever since the crazy doctor Stegman had turned up and Paul and the bad doctor had taken an interest in him. Paul was after Mary’s time and he wouldn’t want to be erased and they felt kind of sorry for him because he had fought to live the hardest. But they would have to be stopped. They had to be stopped for the good of the hospital and everyone in it and all the good that they would do.
