Dec. 15th, 2005 07:59 amEep! Sorry, hon. Internet cut out on me last night and it was late enough that I just smacked it and went to bed. Um. Does Midir like his new pet? 'cause, really. Collar.
Three more days of hell. Today, tomorrow, Saturday. Three more days of retail hell and then my schedule becomes miraculously lighter and I can think again. On the plus side? Almost finished the 'tec novel synopsis last night. So, go me. Got some editing done, not of my own stuff but at least he'll stop bothering me about it now. Or at least he will when I mail it out tomorrow. Got the first chapter of the 'tec novel edited to where I actually find it submissable.
I've been looking back at the past couple weeks and I'm actually kind of amazed at my writing productivity. I haven't managed to throw in any of my other hobbies like painting or sewing but my writing... is actually working. I'm editing, slowly but surely. I'm writing synopses and query letters and all those other good things I hate to write. I'm almost done with what I need to do to submit the 'tec novel. Which is also amazing in and of itself. I've managed to keep editing through all the little voices that tell me I suck. Which is hard when you get rejection letters that says "your theme is common and your ending is weak." On the plus side? Actual note! From editor of magazine! So, huh. But that's really not a rousing endorsement. I'm not quite sure what to think. Then again, I did kind of think the story was crap. The only reason I submitted it is because out of the last three stories ... four stories that got accepted (three got published, unless
lonelywalker's heard anything more about that supposed anthology that maybe exists) I've thought three of them were crap. So.
OOgh. Whatever. I can still write better than most people, I actually like the novels I'm submitting and in 'tec novels, the plot tends to be formula anyway. I just have to make it somewhat interesting. Well, more than somewhat, but. Um. Synopsis almost done. Query letter almost done, and first thirty pages almost done. The query letter goes out first, so if it's rejected, the other two don't come into play, but they supposedly have about a week of turnaround time, and no way in hell am I writing a synopsis in a week. OR thirty pages of a detective novel. Mostly the synopsis. The thirty pages are a snap. At least they're a small press, very open to beginning novelists. I hope.
Yeah, I got nothing else. I'm sure I'll start posting essays on writing again soon, somewhere, sometime. It's just still in the middle of my last hell week and I have discovered the suck that is working retail during Christmas.
