kittydesade: a male and maned lion with a paw over its face as if to say 'oh humans' (facepaw)
So, in the radio-silent interim I graduated tech school and got a job as an implementation developer writing small JS/JQuery scripts to fix up websites so they're accessible. And the way that works is in two stages: first we get scans, where a site gets 3-5 pages sampled out of it (say for a retail site it's the main page, a category page, a product page, and a FAQ or a Contact Us page or something like that) and it goes through a proprietary software scan to see where it's non-compliant with current accessibility standards. And we go through and we fix the tests that we can, as opposed to the ones where another department writes up "your contrast isn't good enough and your text is too small." And then we get site bugs back, where QA goes through the pages and checks that they can be navigated, that everything announces for screen reader users, etc. Scans are a lot easier than site bugs because there's a finite number of specific errors and bugs it's often "um this doesn't work and we have no idea why."

So so far I'm breezing through the scans, but getting back site bugs still gives me a panic every time I open a site bugs task and look at it. Working on that. Wish I didn't have to.

But today was just scans, scans and fireworks although not as many as I expected somehow. And a few dishes, and some napping that resulted in some nightmare, could have done without that. It was a whole situation where I was throwing up and screaming while the boy blithely went on collecting books and meeting up with people at our house (I think it was actually the DC condo but for dream purposes...) to go to game. Woke up with a very "well, that was a pretty blatant 'why won't the people who can do something, do something while this clearly very bad situation is going on' kind of a dream."

And then, y'know, turned out there was a second mass shooting at a July 4th event, so that's life in the US these days, isn't it. It has been 0 days without a traumatizing ... something.

(Note to future self: You are in the PMS zone over the next few weeks. Please be aware that feelings may be more acute during this time. Maybe stay off the news a little more.)
