Dec. 18th, 2017 10:57 pmWell, it's definitely Christmas in retail, I spent the first hour or so of work answering phone calls and questions mostly reasonable for our store (can I get this shipped, can I get a gift certificate, do you have this [item at least in the category of things we carry]) and some of them not so much (do you have this spa product). We're a craft store, so no, we don't have that spa product.
We do, however, have origami paper. And the internet has origami instructions and as a result I have begun stress folding all the origami because it doesn't require the kind of commitment of, say, knitting, I can do it in five annoyed minutes at work, and did I mention we have origami paper? And now I have six origami flowers sitting on my desk and somewhat less of a mad irritation on for Matt Damon and people who waste my time calling to ask if we have this food thing. The person who called about the quilting rack is fine, it's not anyone's fault we don't have space in our advertisements to state which kinds of crafts we do and don't have.
Gnaaarl. Holidays in retail I fucking swear. If I were a self-supporting writer I'd hire three people as seasonal workers and go on vacation.
I did get some writing done, I think all of the background I needed to get done for The Fae After Tomorrow finally and I finished the draft for Haruspicy, I did a bunch of grocery shopping, I did all of my languages except the Arabic and Hindi actual book study which, by the time I got home and finished making dinner it was an hour and a half later than usual so I'm not entirely feeling bad about that. I do need to get back to edits on Malachy at some point but I have no idea if that's going to happen in the middle of Christmas in Retail season. Bit by bit and day by day, I get the work done.
And hopefully we'll go see The Last Jedi tomorrow afternoon. That'd be nice if we can both muster up the energy for it, the boy's been having some hard nights at work too.
