May. 26th, 2013 10:35 pmOh my dear sweet and fluffy lord I have forgotten how exhausting gardening can be. Really a lot exhausting. And I didn't clean up the house at all today with the possible exception of taking the trash out and consolidating all the gardening tools in one place (by necessity, I used most of them) and I feel a little bad about that. Not to mention all the writing I didn't do. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not superwoman, I don't need to do every goddamn thing at once, and one of the reasons I picked this weekend to do the big tasks like this is because it was a three-day weekend. You hear that, self? So stop worrying.
And stop worrying about what you ate, for that matter. You had ONE chocolate and almond candybar, which, okay, was the moral equivalent of two, but you had the candybar, and a single burrito, and a couple pieces of fruit leather, and a healthy dinner and cereal for breakfast, that is not overeating, particularly with that amount of exertion. I swear, my brain is trying to kill me. Possibly by making me not eat things.
Anyway. So, but I did do things today! Starting with I got up and I did, okay, only a couple more minutes on the Person of Interest ep. Which is actually due not this Wednesday but next Wednesday, so that's not much of an issue. I made cranberry pesto which turned out really goddamn tasty if not as chopped/liquified as I wanted, I got the basil transplanted into four pots, two individual plants into a pot each for indoors and three plants each into one of the big pots for outdoors. I got the oregano planted, I got the chocolate mint planted, I got the marigolds transplanted and put out front for no real reason other than marigolds, goddammit, and I got the oregano trimmed back down to the healthy growth (mostly) so hopefully that'll encourage new. I got about four to six square feet of raised beds in front of the porch pulled and covered in mulch, except for the irises, which will hopefully grow bigger/better/more in the future. I guess tomorrow I need to cover the much to finish killing anything under there, but yay! And ow. I'm going to regret all that in the morning.
And then I even managed to cook dinner and clean up from most of the mess. Except the dishes, which the boy does most of because I do all the damn cooking in this household. Seriously. I don't mind that much, I love to cook, but I do not want to have to do all the cleaning up, too. And. Mm. No, that's mostly it, but that's still about four or five hours of gardening. And the usual chores, too, feeding cats, etc.
And then next weekend the strawberries and all my new flowers will be transplanted into the porchside beds and it will be fucking gorgeous, I tell you. Gorgeous. Tomorrow I get to do all the house tidying and all of the writing, and after all the goddamn gardening that will be a relief. I do still need to either get a trellis or put up some of the spare chickenwire as a trellis for the cucumbers to climb on, but that's about it for garden stuff. The rest of it will be writing, languages (because I'm going to try to do that even if it's a Monday) and cleaning. Shouldn't be that hard!
I may or may not be overestimating something here.
