Dec. 27th, 2012 08:41 amYes, still no language studies, although if I'm very, very lucky that'll start next week. Admittedly, this week it's largely because of Yuletide. Working that the first chunk of the week and then recovering yesterday. But I did get the books unpacked and on the shelf, so there's that.
Project De-Ant has begun! So far we're using vinegar and vaseline, but if that fails I know where to get diatomaceous earth nearby, so there's that. And maybe borax lines as a very last resort because the cats get freaking everywhere and I can't convince them that this is my kitchen, not... well, Murdock's. Though, really, if ants are our worst problem right now, we're doing well. There's been high wind, it ripped a couple of shingles (and one window screen, but those need replaced anyway) off, but nothing major. And now there's a dusting of snow on the ground. And we're still warm and cozy in our house. With our radiators and our incredibly thick brick walls. Mmmm castle walls. Seriously, they used to build castles like this.
The usual post-Yuletide depression doesn't seem to be hitting with as much force as previous years. On the one hand, it is doing its usual number on me that my stories aren't getting passed around, rec'd everywhere, a thousand hits in 48 hours and so on. On the other hand that "usual number" is more the existence of 'woe and sadness, nobody loves me or my writing' than the full depth of 'WOE DEATH AND DOOM I MUST CEASE ALL ATTEMPTS AT ANYTHING EVER.' Which is infinitely preferable! I'm not sure if this is because the period of frenetic activity was shorter (MUCH fewer last minute garbage story replacement pinch hits) or because I've got work to launch into that's either a) popular writing or b) not writing work at all or what. But I'll take it.
Right. I still have crap to do, I'm planning my next year's worth of Courtesan School (Courtesan Graduate School? Courtesan Life?) out, my projects and my schedule of study. Nothing new, just rearranging things to focus review on the things that need review and study on the things that need study. Still trying to figure out what the best approach to learning Arabic is and which freaking dialect. But I have that, I have a house to unpack and mop and so on, so let's get cracking, self. Or, well, mopping and blogging.
My house still needs a name. This periodically bugs me.
