Word Count: 429
Rating: PG (ish)
Summary: Chase's Ascension

It hurt.

He didn't realize how much it hurt until it was almost over. He didn't know what it was until his parents' bodies were scattered along with the wreckage of their car across the last mile. And even then, he didn't know what to call it. An upgrade? Chase Collins, mark two?

"Pull over," he whispered. His parents didn't hear him. "Pull over," he insisted.

"We're almost home, honey." His mother's voice (foster mother) was trying to be reassuring, but the imminent sensation of needing to hork in the car was drowning her out.

"Chase," his father turned around to look at him. Then at his wife. "Maybe we should..."

He had been wrong. What came out of him wasn't vomit, wasn't bile or reconstituted chicken, wasn't anything. It was energy, pure energy that came rocketing out of his mouth and slammed through the dashboard. It was still vomiting. It still had that horrible feeling of his body out of control rejecting something, pushing it through his mouth. Only this time there was no foul aftertaste.

There was a taste of blood, sliding around inside his mouth. He thought he'd bitten his tongue, or maybe the inside of his cheek. But that wasn't really that bad.

He didn't know what had happened. He didn't even realize was crying until he felt his face for injuries and his hand came away wet and clear. And it wasn't as though he particularly felt like crying. Not for the death of his parents, whom he hadn't cared about in years. Not because he was hurt, because he wasn't. He felt better than he had in... ever.

Hands on the black pavement beneath him. Pushing himself up, at first to his knees, and then upright. One step at a time. Make sure everything works.

Something strange has happened to him when he was 13, and it was happening again now. The two events were connected as inextricably as his heartbeat and his utter failure to care about anything. He hadn't always been like that, he realized. He cared about things, once, even people. And once upon a time he had been just an ordinary boy.

Didn't matter, really. He rolled his head around on his neck, finished making sure everything worked, and stood.

Wreckage scattered all over the street and everything sang. Everything in his body hummed with power. He turned his palm up and floated into the air twenty feet before he realized he was flying. And then he started laughing. It was wonderful. It was all going to be okay.

Title: Species
Fandom: Stargate: Atlantis
Character: Michael Kenmore
Word Count: 1,020
Rating: PG (ish)
Summary: Michael, after being kicked out of Atlantis the first time and out of the first Hive ship he comes across, is not having a very good time.

He didn't stop running until he reached the third transition after the Hive ship's current resting spot. He didn't know know if they were following, if they cared enough to track him through three Stargates. He thought, probably, they didn't.

He spent the first night underneath an overhang of rock, huddled against the stone on a bed of dirt and leaves. What little clothing he had seemed inadequate, but there was nothing to be done about it. About any of it, this situation he found himself in. Untenable, irrefutable, he doubted that he would have been one to sulk or brood on the hatefulness of the situation whether he were human or Wraith. And yet, that was exactly the point. He was neither.

It surprised him, a little, the part of him that still remembered what he had been, that his body wasn't rebelling against itself and killing him. And then again, it might have been, and he wouldn't notice until it was too late. It wasn't as though he could go in for a full body scan. He wondered if he could even still feed, and then remembered that he could. Really, a marvel of genetic engineering, Beckett's retrovirus. It shouldn't be possible to suppress half a person's DNA. Not and have that person still live.

And yet, he was still alive. Amazingly healthy, or at least he had been at his last checkup at Atlantis. He retained all of his memories, even the ones he most wanted to forget. He wasn't sure if that was an even greater injustice, or better than the alternative of being half a Wraith and not knowing why. And yet. The betrayal of the humans was less understandable, more painful.

Michael, or the creature who had been Michael, pushed those thoughts away and tried to go to sleep.

Title: National Coming Out Day
Fandom: The Covenant
Characters: Pogue, Caleb, Reid, Tyler
Word Count: 1,075
Prompt: Emergence
Rating: PG
Summary: Okay, so I'm a little late for National Coming Out Day. We'll pretend I actually meant to write this for the occasion instead of realizing it fit in perfectly with the theme. Caleb, becoming more comfortable not only with normality, but with being open about who he is and who he loves. And Pogue, who likes him just the way he is.

It took the better part of the first semester for Caleb to relax. At least, it seemed that way.

And yet, every day was a little better. Hell, even for Pogue, every day without Aaron or Kira or that bastard Chase was a good one. Every day they put between them and the beginning of that last year of high school was a good one. Pogue kind of wanted a do-over on that last year, but that would mean sacrificing all that he'd found with Caleb. And there was no way he was going to do that.

It had taken the better part of the first semester for Caleb to start really smiling again, the way he used to. Even back before William Danvers' premature decline, back before everything had started. But, God, it was worth it.

Now, he thought, they actually seemed almost human. Felt normal. About as normal as they were going to get, anyway.

kittydesade: (little slips of paper)
I know I requested some pretty odd fandoms, and all I can say is that they were the first things that came to mind! These aren't guidelines so much as polite suggestions, because I know that when someone says to me "write me a story about this fandom" half the time I completely blank on what part of the fandom to write about.

Anne Maxwell: I read these books as a kid, I don't remember how old I was I picked them up first. I remember wanting to be Rheba, which is pretty much the only reason I picked her as a character. Don't feel constrained by the two characters chosen, so much. Mostly, as long as it centers around the main characters, it's all good. I love the universe, I loved the search for home, and I wish she'd written more.

Dresden files: Bob! Bob Bob Bob! Also, Terrence Mann! Which is probably the big reason I like Bob. But I also like the character, I like the tragedy of him, and I absolutely love the snark. So, yeah, anything centered around Bob. No Bob/Harry please. But smarm is okay. And lovely. Past, present, future. (And if it doesn't include Bob, that's okay too, Bob's just the only specific thing I can think of that I would want.)

Sky High: Anything with the students. They are fun and lovable and adorable people. Again, no slash please.

Jekyll: Um, shoot, as far as I can tell, anything goes. I just saw the series a couple months ago and it was one of the coolest retellings of that story I've ever seen. So, yeah. Anything that continues that mood, theme, story, all that. Excellent!

And really, above all, relax. I'm easy. Write what you love, and have a good time!
