Sep. 21st, 2006 06:09 pmWell, fuck.
So, the fabric requirements agreed with the pattern cutting layout, which did not agree with the directions but I could fudge that. The problem is, doing it according to the fabric requirements (which I can't change because that's how much fabric I bought) means that the skirt winds up not looking like the skirt I wanted on the pattern cover. So I essentially have three very different skirts than I wanted. Crap.
I think what I'm going to do is just not use all the reams of trim I bought for the skirt. I'll make the tops, because they're nice tops. And I'll do what I meant to do and get panne, or something similar, and make skirts according to the other set of instructions, which makes a flowier skirt. It'll require more fabric, and I can't make it in time for this weekend's Faire. But it'll look better.
And this, folks, is why we always make a mock-up and take at least a month to make sure if this is a very important costume.
Oh well. It's not the end of the world, just frustrating and irritable-making. I have skirts ready-made ANYWAY, more of them than I used to. And I have a skirt that's in pieces right now that would actually go, and wouldn't look too damn bad with a pirate shirt and a cinch that I'm making. I can swing this. It's just. Fmeh. I really wanted to be a gypsy on Sunday.
