kittydesade: (what about eternity)

So, let's see. I got home last night hoping to get all my writing and editing done before 10 so I could start the backup and then upgrade process and maybe have it all done by midnight? That was, it turned out, optimistic of me. That said I did get my writing done by 10.30 and started to make the backup, it all loaded to the external without a problem and then I made a system restore disk this morning and,

but no. that's not how it happened.

How it happened was I woke up at three in the morning because the boy's ringtone was screaming in my ear. I pick up the phone. Rustling. And nothing. I hang up after trying to get him to talk to me and call him back. Nothing. Rustling. I text him, go downstairs to check up on my backup (it's still running), check my texts, attempt to go back to sleep assuming he butt dialed me and it wasn't a desperate cry for help while there was an active shooter in the VA building or something. I don't even fucking know. It was three in the morning and I was not awake.

So I wake up, stumble downstairs before a shower even to get the grocery list texted to the boy since no one copied it off the fridge whiteboard, and check on my backup. Yay it worked! I make a system restore disk and start the process of upgrading to Win10, which takes even longer because when I try to make a Microsoft account it says I already have one? Excuse? And it turns out, well, what I think happened is someone with my first initial and last name has an account in fucking Norway or somewhere, probably the same person whose Ikea mailing list I'm on. But this takes fifteen minutes to figure out. And I haven't showered yet. So finally I use my I R Professional Writer email to make a Microsith account start downloading, pay for the license, copy over the license key for safekeeping and start downloading and go fucking shower. Except not yet because the boy calls back to say the grocery store he usually goes to is closed, he's just going to come home. Okay fine whatever I'm going to go shower now.

So I shower and I get ready for the day and I grump at the boy and I poke the computer whenever it requires input from a human, which isn't very often. It warns me that I may not keep all my media files because something? I would be more able to tell what the issue is if I could see what files it hated but will it let me? No it will not. (I assume this has something to do with some very old Amazon Unbox videos I still have but I don't freaking care that's what the Firestick is for. Or re-downloading.) It doesn't matter, all my music is backed up on my external hard drives, all my media is either re-downloadable through services or on disc (mostly on disc), so let's do this.

Does it finish before I have to go to work? Does it bollocks.

I left it in the endless "0% 5% 15% 80% updates complete RESTART" cycle, hopefully it can sit without input from a human until I get home. I got to work to deal with a giant pile of stuff to do at work and the elevator started smoking and reeking of burnt appliance, so that was fun. I am exhausted between that and yesterday's work shenanigans and realizing that I had to do all the upgrading at once and .... yeah, I'm just exhausted from the last two days. The vaguely redeeming factor is that all of this is very temporary stress. The work problems will be done at the end of the day, the computer problem will be done by the end of the week? Should be? Whether that means I have to buy an entire new computer or take it to a shop to get an OS reinstalled or what. And in the meantime I have my netbook. And an entire system image backup, as well as the manual backups of files, install files, and license keys. So it's not entirely awful. It's just a LOT.

I am looking forward to going to bed early tonight. Here's hoping the boy doesn't butt dial me at butts o'clock in the morning again.
