kittydesade: (what is christmas)

I have no idea what the hell is going on in writer circles but this week on the Tweeters alone I've seen someone cold-soliciting evals from published authors via personal Instagram, someone telling agents that a specific agent by name has put in an offer on them to try and haggle which the specific agent then went on Twitter to say "Uh, no I didn't, and this is not a thing you want to be doing" and just now I saw "If you had any social skills you wouldn't give advice to people when you don't understand the first thing about short stories" to someone who has successfully published many of them and did not, unlike several other advice giving writers I could name (Franzen) preface it with THIS THING YOU MUST DO.

People who offer advice, any kind of advice but especially creative advice where the process is simple (in the case of writing, put words in some kind of order) and the variations are endless, with the sort of certainty that they have found the One Right Way To Do Things and anyone who's not doing it their way is Wrong, those people annoy the crap out of me.

Bleh. Other than that, writing world for me goes well and enthusiastically? And today's work chaos was of the much more normal kind. Slightly short staffed due to a cold but we managed to get everything done that needed to get done in the day, including two semi-emergency orders.

I didn't manage to get arcs written yesterday, I might today but I think that may wait until a day when I have more time to scribble all over my whiteboard. I did determine that if I take the end of the 4 The Words event as the deadline for Galaxy Hillbillies, which is my unofficial Nanowrimo novel, I won't have to charge ahead and do too many words in one day (about 2k) so I think I'm going to do that, stop at the end of the 50k and re-evaluate and see if I need to change my approach, which is the main plotline, etc. Because I know I didn't pick the right set of main characters to begin with, and I know I need to Southern Gothic it up, but how and where I'm not sure. We'll see.

I also came up with a hilarious idea that amounts to: lesbian Viking-era Robin Hood x Blade, although whether I want them to be Vikings or Saxons I don't know. I'm reading and deciding. Either way it's hilarious. And the era isn't that far away, temporally or geographically, from the original Robin Hood era!

The minimum I have to get written tonight is Nanowrimo stuff and Unofficial Nano stuff. The next tier up is a 1k story, and then after that I should really start working on synopses, arcs, and other planning things so I have paperwork to choose from. Which, if I'm separating things into printouts and folders finally, I should really buckle down and clean out the damn file cabinet this weekend. Le sigh. But. Tonight is basically going to be a night of curling up under blankets, typing, cackling, and knitting when I get stuck. I figure that's a good amount of hygge, which is a concept I became enamored with today and appropriate if I'm going to write about lesbian Vikings. (I knew about hygge but I was reminded today that it should be a priority in winter because otherwise, fuck winter.)
