Jun. 6th, 2018 10:01 pmI aten't dead, but very tired.
We were all broke down at capoeira today, me and Groot and other dude who doesn't have a sneaky code name yet. I wrenched my shoulder hauling around merch for a summer camp today, Groot has his head thing going on, and other dude had some blood pressure issues so we were all kind of limpy and called it early to go limp home. But I did manage to get the various educational coding and such books dropped off at the community library so that got them out of my house and more into a place where they might be useful.
I managed to balance work with writing today, which was no small thing when work was quiet enough (large camp order aside) to be incredibly boring. I got the Lifestyles draft almost finished to the point where Anna can edit, I got another wiki entry in Starlight which how I had gotten that far without one of the main characters having all his shit written down in one place I do not know. Having it all Wiki'd in Scrivener is kind of a help in me figuring out what needs Wiki'd but using the draft with editorial notes in is also making me want to edit the thing which, no, that's not going to help. Edits are where everyone can read them. (All two of us, but hey.)
Heat rash (allergic reaction?) seems to be dying down with copious application of benadryl and cortisone. It used to be on my right arm a couple weeks ago, then over the weekend it showed up on my left, and now I'm thinking with some aggravation that it's a result of the sunscreen since it's right on my upper arms and chest where I put the sunscreen and then subsequently don't immediately wash or rub it off with plunging my hands into dirt and under hose spray. Soooo I guess I am going brown this summer after all, or switching to a different sunscreen. Ugh.
(Yes, I sunscreen my face too, but typically I use the lighter moisturizer-sunscreen combo I have for that.)
(Oh god I can only imagine heat rash on my face. That would suck desiccated monkey ass.)
I have managed also to work reading back into my schedule, which was more difficult than it seemed but being properly medicated for low thyroid seems to help, as does having an office where I can go into and be in Work Mode when at home. So much less guilt when I stretch out on the couch with a Kindle now. And while I could have done without the week-ten day period of burnout that precipitated okay fine I'm going to pick up a book now, I'm plowing through my to-read list like a fiend and really enjoying myself.
Current reads include: Rin Chupeco's The Bone Witch which was excellent and full of angry revenge chickness, Mishell Baker's Borderline which I finished, deeply enjoyed, eyed the sequels wistfully and decided to wait until I got paid this week and then realized I'd already bought the first sequel so currently I'm in the middle of Phantom Pains. Which is also a terrible pun. And then I also chewed my way through the first three Terry Pratchett Tiffany Aching books: The Wee Free Men, A Hat Full Of Sky, and Wintersmith. I'm starting to see why people on tumblr called me Tiffany Aching, out of the witches. Anyway, too tired to elaborate much but I enjoyed all of these and would highly recommend them.
And I didn't mean to add this on but I saw this most recently here so DW y'all get the benefit of my ire: Look folks, I don't know the words to God Bless America either, I didn't grow up with jingoistic indoctrination that means you have to learn every patriotic song out there. Now, if I were having a party specifically to ... no, hell with that, if I were having a party where the set list was decided in advance, be damn sure I would LEARN the words. But please stop acting like you're not a true American if you don't know the words to one goddamn song that isn't even the national fucking anthem. I'll see your God Bless America and raise you Lift Every Voice and Sing plus This Land Is Your Land.
