Well, fuck.

Best wishes and prayers to my friends in Canada. Hoo boy.

I've hit the birthday money point where I have to make will checks not to un-savings some of it and spend it on Moar Clothes and a pair of shoes, which I guess counts as Moar Clothes given that I only want one pair of shoes and it's a generalized pair rather than this specific pair and that pair and that other pair. I guess I can be glad it's only the clothes, that my desire for All The Art Supplies is easily enough sat on because I have, I shit you not, a schedule at which I am buying things. (And I only want two specific items that probably won't go out of stock between now and the end of July anyway, the rest is 'this type of pen', 'tablet maybe', etc.)

At the moment my general idea is to take me and my credit card down to the shoe store down the block, see what they have and if something feels particularly comfortable and looks absolutely stylish, and if not, do not buy anything online either. Yes, I have been cruising the Frye site again. I don't know what I'm going to do about the multiple modcloth coupons I have though. That's what's really cutting into my will rolls.

(I have, however, figured out that I am short enough that any skirt I am comfortable in will probably only show four inches or so of sock between boot top and skirt hem, so while I won't be able to wear funky socks with skirts and have them show, I might be able to do something cute with them. Or tights, but I hate the way tights feel on me. I always end up feeling like sausage in casing. I don't know if that will go away if I achieve peak muscle tone/weight loss balance. Maybe? But I have resigned myself to not being long-legged enough for the skirt-boots-legwarmers look.)

Stuff and things. Writing did not go so well yesterday, but I blame that on being distracted by drawing which I need to do much less of (being distracted, that is, not drawing, drawing is good for me) and being taken out for dinner on my not-exact-but-who-cares birthday. Which I have no control over. Writing is going better today! And I continue to feel about on top of things, despite sleeping in more than I wanted to this morning, ugh, and despite trying to figure out how I'm going to get all the sewing and clothes sorting and cleaning I want to do done tonight, plus languages, plus whaaaat. Maybe the answer is languages will be putting on things in that language in the background while I sew and clean. Anyone got any interesting Arabic or Hindi videos or things on Netflix?

No, I think the solution here is to get my writing done at work, get home, capoeira intensely for a while, hemming pants while Attack of Titan plays for Japanese and possibly reading over the next few grammar points, then go through at least the closet portion of my clothes, then tackle more languages and if I have video recs, watch those, and if I don't, I clean in between languages. Sewing the actual coat will have to happen later in the week if possible. There. That ought to keep my brain from eating me with the weasels of YOU WERE NOT SUPREMELY PRODUCTIVE FEEL SHAME NOW.

(Seriously, I'm working on those weasels but fucking hell they are pervasive. Just when you think you've knocked one down, two more pop up at the least convenient time.)

I have a similar-ish thing with socks/skirts but I still rock them anyway. I sit with my leg across my knee sometimes, then the sock shows! And also they are a great comfort if I have to go to a doctors' appointment involving stirrups, or anything where I can leave my socks on despite being in the annoying gown basically. Also also, I really like ankle socks? Even though ankle socks with long skirts probably make me look even shorter, I don't care, they are comfy and right now I have a bunch of new Studio Ghibli ones so suck it, world.

oooo, maybe!

as far as finding, socks, sockdreams.com is of course great (and gives good sizing recommendations). but i have also had good luck with combining DSW coupons with clearance items and looking in their knee high department and have gotten some super comfy ones. also, sock it to me socks are really fun (but you have to be careful about the patterns if you have large calves, because sometimes the stitching makes them tight and then they Do Not Fit. This is true of the Jellyfish ones, for example).

if you are interested in compression socks, can also rec some knee high ones that are technically not "medical grade" but super help with POTS at times and are pretty. (I cannot pull compression socks over my knees omg it's hard enough to get them up to my knees.)

ETA: forgot to ask if you were looking for sock recs at all.
