kittydesadeI had to get up at stupid o'clock in the morning today while it was still dark and freezing in order to get everything done by the time I had to leave for my annual physical. Annual physical with speculum, too. Anyone who has ever been through this is crossing their legs right now. It's not supposed to get above freezing today. No, I correct myself, it's not supposed to get up to freezing today. And winter, and Canada has it worse, and blah blah blah, and all I can think is why the fuck did I schedule my annual physical for one of the most miserable times of the year.
Brilliant. Go me.
That said, everything that could immediately be measured and prodded and looked at was fine, my blood pressure was almost textbook which is much better than it was after three days of Dragon*Con and on my way to a blood donation. Glucose and cholesterol and thyroid levels should come back in a day or so at which time we'll find out what damage all those sugar cookies have done. Yes, I know eating lots of sweets doesn't actually give you diabetes. (I'm not so sure about my cholesterol or other such things.)
And then it turned out I didn't owe anything for one preventative care physical a year, so I went and spent the money I would have otherwise spent on the doctor on an Eric Foner US history book because in some ways I am very impulsive. Yes, I know there are other books I wanted to get, no I didn't. Oops. I really need to staple the list (Tanya Huff Enchantment Emporium series, and Fifth Quarter, mostly) to my forehead so I stop forgetting. On the other hand this was also an impulse buy from the sale cart, so.
I also did not get nearly enough sleep last night, although I at least got enough to activate the weasel detectors. Which popped up at 6.30 in the fucking morning, thank you brainweasels, do I not have enough to do today? No? Fuck you too. But I think for the next couple of nights in the interest of getting a full solid night's sleep I'm going to have the hot leaf juice thing. Instead of waking up enough to wonder if I'm waking up two or three times in the middle of the night, which did happen. I have such a hazy memory of waking up at 1 and at 4 that I wasn't sure I had until the weasels started kicking in and I realized I must actually be that tired. Hot leaf juice, then. It doesn't seem bad enough for cough meds.
Other than that. I'm doing okay. I'm doing better. I'm getting through the cold, I'm crawling out of the hole of loss of David Bowie. Cute shit like him getting a lightning bolt constellation that points at Mars (or is near Mars?) helps. Just sitting quiet and getting to sleep and be sad also helps. The boy, for all that he teases me gently, isn't saying a word about being this punched by grief over a rock star, because he is a good and excellent boy. And life continues to crawl on. Bit by bit, getting back in the game.
