I may have accidentally a screed on tumblr about just because it's feminine (clothing, physical practices, whatever) doesn't mean it's not combat worthy and this whole response to a query is sexist. Oops. Basically what happened is someone wrote in for writing advice on feminine ass-kicking and the guy (it seems a reasonable assumption that it was a guy) was all NO DRESSES. JEANS OR KHAKIS AND A LEATHER JACKET AND A SHIRT ONLY. FATIGUES BETTER. COMBAT BOOTS. NO JEWELRY. MAKEUP WILL GET IN YOUR EYES. There was considerable eyerolling at that one, as someone who has been on stage and endured the pancakes of sweat-resistant makeup that has to be visible from 40-80 ft away, not to mention getting it off afterwards. BALLET IS FEMININE AND WILL NOT PREPARE YOU FOR COMBAT IN THE LEAST. I may have gone off on that one, since ballet has prepared me in stamina, in physical awareness and following movements, and in a lot of other ways I didn't anticipate, for capoeira. I mean, it's not going to teach you to kick someone's knee out or throw a punch, but it damn well doesn't hurt and can indeed help, and even provide a cover for "operative" training, if your background requires it. I just. Fucksake. You fucking sexist moron. You know nothing of the feminine OR of what works in combat, for that matter. I wasn't the only one going off on a screed either, thankfully, just took the aspects that hadn't already been covered.

So I went to capoeira royally pissed off and defensive of my ballet-ness. And ended up spending a good chunk of warm-ups thinking, well, ballet taught me spotting, that's useful. Taught me learning choreography, that's hella useful. Taught me balance, taught me footwork. Seriously, I was making a list in my head. It was kinda cute.

(If anyone's wondering, modern/jazz I would consider the most useful, followed by ballet, followed by of all things belly-dancing, mostly for the sheer amount of core strength but in capoeira and more 'round movement' martial arts particularly it also helps for the muscles that let you move and bend in circles.)

(Ballet won't help with combat my ass. Person used the example of Jean Claude Van Damme learning ballet and claimed it only made his movements graceful, yeah, have you SEEN some of the dances ballet dancers do? Have you tried to do that for as long as they do? Ballet will make you REALLY FUCKING STRONG. A sixteen year old aspiring professional ballerina, who's doing all the camps and prep for that, is probably comparable to a high school footballer. Only without the head injuries.)

It's a button. They pushed it.

Debating starting up not so much meal planning but lunch planning again. I attempted it when I was starting to inject more protein into my diet, that didn't work too long, but if I start pre-making meals for lunch over the course of the week on Sunday I wonder if that would even work. Argh. I just have to get into the habit. They don't even have to be very involved lunches! Just, food. High protein tasty food so I'm not scrounging and eating yogurt cups all week. Not that that's not tasty.

Did finally start getting caught up on OC October yesterday. I did exercises this morning! Go me! And after OC October, or this evening, maybe finishing up County Witches like I meant to do oh, three weeks ago? and starting up a whole shitpile of edits. Ugh. Why have I been so fucking tired the past few weeks? (Why the hell am I so energized now.) I do not know. But there's work to be done, so I guess I'd better get to doing it. Both work of my choosing and day jobligations.
