Day 6: Ananda
Okay, Ananda is a character I wrote over the summer for a Camp Nanowrimo thing. Played by Alexaner Siddig around as old as he is now, I think, because that was who my crush at the time was and because he does intelligent/wise and snarky well. His real name is Noah, but when we meet him he and the rest of his team are working on the psychological development of an artificial intelligence program, the human factor, and testing out a virtual environment. They're all going by their login names because it's marginally easier, and also perhaps a little because it's easier to maintain distance from the stresses of the work when you're all playing a game.

So. Ananda/Noah. He's friends with his boss, he's been friends for a long time and was probably recruited because his friend/boss knows how intelligent he is, how quickly he adapts to learning new skills. Not that he didn't have the other requisite programming and computer skills qualifications, but given that this is experimental technology a certain amount of ability to adapt and think laterally was also required. Ananda was all about the project, and when they ended up picking code names he picked his both because he wanted to be a sense of peace and freedom and to fuck with people's heads because of the proximity to the woman's name Amanda, because that's the kind of guy he is. He performs male gender expectations very well when it pleases him to do so, but he also likes to mess with people's heads. He hates the expectations placed on people because of their genders, enjoys fucking with people's idea of what a man is and is supposed to do, and we can all blame his parents and their reactions to his increasingly non-traditional upper-ish class British demeanor for that.

He is, despite the puckish tendencies, a sweet guy. He's emotionally intuitive, fairly tolerant, also capable of stepping up and giving people (Bodhi, mostly) shit when others are too intimidated or reticent to do so. He's also reckless and not always cognizant of his own limitations or the precautions he should take. Which is probably why stuff happens to him that I cannot talk about because spoilers. By the end of the novel in which he appears he's been quite translated, and is a lot more subdued and cautious as well as edgy and sometimes snappish. He loves his friend very much, in a multitude of ways, yes, although he is not in any kind of exclusive relationship at any point in the book, and he cares for his team. He has a few close friends, or at least friends he considers close that he tries to talk to regularly, but only Bodhi is in close physical proximity. And as well, he has a number of casual friends being that he talks to and treats everyone friendly and equal as a general rule. There's not as much of this shown in the novel because of reasons and because it's a high stress, long work hour environment. Someday I hope to write more about him and showcase these traits more.
