I really need to find a better contingency plans for Wednesday capoeira. I didn't get out of downtown till 6.10, by which point I would miss at best 30 minutes of class (it probably would have been 30 which would have been... eh tolerable, but I had no way of knowing that) and at most 60, and I finally declared fuckit I'm going home I can practice on my own at least this one time. But fucking argh. This happens every fucking time, the 5.30 bus is always at least 10 minutes late, forcing me to hustle to get there on time. I need to just start taking the 5pm bus when I know I'm going to bus it, and if I'd thought of that earlier... well. Fine. No, I'll do my capoeira tonight after the boy leaves, that's a good two hours and counting till bed marker. So. Still going to fume and sulk and throw my toys out of the pram.

(Though I guess this is a decent measure of my commitment to capoeira if I'm going to pitch a fit about not getting to go. Even when I was falling asleep half an hour before.)

... and then first I tried to print out the American Government readings only to have them all come out either in 8pt font or not at all because short on printer ink, and then I tried to leave my comment in the discussion as per the requirements and the page fucking ate it. Am I not allowed to do anything tonight?

Urgh. I haven't been keeping track of my words lately as well as I should, so no word count tonight. Next week, I hope. Then again the past while since DragonCon has been kind of crappy, with very little writing involved, so it wouldn't likely be a very impressive word count anyway. Wednesday Reads, though.

Wednesday Reads
I'm currently working my way through Between Silk and Cyanide by Leo Marks, which is a memoir of his time in the spy service in WWII and which I started when I had it out from the library, and then found it in a used bookstore, so there's that.

I'm also working my way through A Natural History of Dragons, slowed down by ending up doing more online classes over the weekend than reading. It's fun, though. I'm enjoying it, I just haven't been making as much time to sit down and read as I maybe should. I might also finish Feed while I'm at it. Let's see, I've started Feed ages ago and never got very far into it, which is predictable because zombies are not normally a thing I go to. And I started Zeroes by Chuck Wendig and Shadowshaper by Daniel Older and I need to finish both of those. Probably that, after Dragons. And as far as nonfiction after Between Silk and Cyanide, I think it's time I finally read the damn Gotham book I bought literally years ago .... actually almost eight years ago, I think, and never read through. I flipped through the index and took the parts I wanted, but never read it through. So maybe I'll do that next.

I'm also doing a considerable amount of reading of articles and things for the American US Government class I'm taking, but some of the ethnocentrism (being Muslim is a barrier to a country becoming democratic? not being a theocracy or oligarchy of religious leaders in general, Islam is the one singled out? yeahfuckyou) and the subtle jingoism in some of the articles is making me eloquently pissed off. If swearing weren't prohibited in the discussion forum I'd turn into Swearingen from Deadwood. Still, the overall lecture is at least more informative and fact-based than extolling the merits of the United States government over everyone else, so there's that, I guess.

Re last paragraph: Well, just look at the US. We're not a democracy, we're a corporatocracy that got that way in large part through the effort of would-be Christian theocrats. But it's important to our self-image that we are Democracy Incarnate, so obviously Christian theocracy is no barrier to Democracy. Does that make sense?
