Sep. 13th, 2015 09:35 pmSo, I went to McKay's today, which turned out to be kind of a mistake and kind of an awesome thing as usual. I stayed under budget! I did not get the fucking Sandman vol 3 from the ... whatever editions, the ones with full color rainbow spines? that I saw on the shelf because I thought I had it, and it turned out that was the one that I thought I had that went missing somewhere along the line and now I'm kicking myself because do you know how hard it is to get a fucking complete Sandman unless you buy it all at once? VERY VERY FUCKING HARD.
So there's that, but mostly I came away satisfied. And then I got home and looked at my mess of a bookshelf and went no this won't do, and started wiping everything down, reshelving it, alphabetizing, and figuring out what could be turned into used bookstore credits. A partial list of the weird shit I found on my bookshelf now that I've gone looking through it again:
An 80 year old collected Shakespeare
An indeterminate old complete Shakespeare that as far as I can tell dates back somewhere between 80 and 110 years old. Um. (This is when my brain turns into Indiana Jones and starts screaming IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM.)
Multiple copies of the Satyricon O.o
The Golden Bough I thought I didn't have and failed to get
A whole bunch of Terry Pratchett and Tad Williams I'd put on my Kindle Wishlist apparently because I wanted them in digital rather than dead tree form. Huh.
A shitload of dust that is still up my nose
Way more folk tale books than I thought I had. The predictable areas, though. Western Europe. The British Isles. Grimm.
My grandmother's old Russian textbooks. Anyone want some REALLY OLD Russian textbooks?
I also have plans, okay, more immediate push for plans of another floor to ceiling bookshelf. At least. And possibly we'll knock off the chair rail upstairs too and put on that bookshelf so that the gaming books have a place to live that isn't so ugly. Actually, given that I did clear three shelves on the non-fiction shelf due to moving a lot of the hardbacks upstairs and the ancient falling apart French architectural oversized books (they really need to be restored but ahahahahahahah with what money) the gaming books can probably get their shelf first, and then the one in the office. Look, I like me some floor-ceiling bookshelves, what can I say.
So. Now I've got a shitton to read before I go searching down the rest of my wish list. Let's see how long that resolution lasts. Heh.
The house is still a wreck. Needs cleaned. Something we'll work on over the course of the week, I guess, and onto next weekend. Now that I still have far fewer deadlines to try and meet. At least, the ones that aren't self-imposed, and even those can be extended. Self. Do you hear me? (Of course I don't hear me, I'm going to freak out about deadlines and meeting them anyway.)
ETA: Okay, so as winter comes on slowly and inexorably I thought I wanted a Ravenclaw bathrobe. Now I realize what I actually want is a Ravenclaw smoking jacket. So much more glamorous for lounging around and reading. I mean, I also want a bathrobe too, because it'd probably be warmer, but still.

Date: 2015-09-14 11:14 am (UTC)I mean, I suppose one could look for the right color scheme and sew on a patch or two if one were so inclined. But still. You'd think someone would have tried to make money off of this by now.

Date: 2015-09-14 07:35 pm (UTC)In terms of shiny fantasy-related patterns that I want to knit (but whyyyy did I pack the book already whyyyy), look very doable, but is not directly HP-related, I am very excited about Woodland Knits. The designer also has some fun-stand-alone patterns on Rav...I think they did the beekeepers' quilt too that was really popular a couple years ago? Not sure. Also also, there are patterns that designer did for Hogwarts charm bracelets. Just saying. On Rav.

Date: 2015-09-14 11:48 am (UTC)I would be fine with a Ravenclaw or Slytherin one. *nods* I'm still looking for an actual decent dressing gown to lounge about in, but that smoking jacket could serve same purpose.
