And I'm back from DragonCon. Which was... fun and interesting and a whole lot of unexpected. It turns out I didn't need to print out 100 pages of notes after all, but having rewatched and paid attention to both shows was definitely very useful. And then, it's entirely possible we can post the notes up later, with minor revisions, as mini-boarding. So there's that. Home means back to working on Haven, but that can come in bits and pieces, over time. Maybe I'll do some tonight.

Home also means a shitton of cleaning that I haven't been doing because miniboarding, prepping for DragonCon, and taking notes. Heh.

I should also be making a list at some point maybe today, maybe tomorrow, of everything I need to do, writing-wise. I don't have any major deadlines impending, I have time. According to my calendar, now is the time to arrange things so I can write Long Road for Nanowrimo, so there's that, and there's finishing White Lightning, but that's semi-easy? Anyway, more easy to focus on now that I'm not rushing to finish something, I know what to do there. Like Murderboarding Haven is easy.

So. What did happen at DragonCon. I hung around with [profile] bethany_lauren a lot. I went to panels and walked around with [personal profile] kikibug13 and her boy, and we all went to Benihana's for a hibachi dinner the first night, that was fun. Caught up with people. Hung out with, of all people, the ones who run the AmSciFiFan track, who I was so annoyed with to start because three weeks to prep yeesh, but still, by and large, very cool folk. There was quite a bit of staying up till stupid o'clock in the morning, way more than I've done at any DragonCon I think since my first. A lot of socializing. Including some brief socializing in weird ways, I met Chuck Wendig and he actually fucking recognized me on sight, and it took me an entire very awkward conversation to realize my fucking picture is on my Twitter account now. Oh. Duh. So, that happened. And then because it was easier than fighting the crowds I lurked and hung out and read till I went to go meet Bethany for writing sprints. Which led to some more hilarious Twitter exchanges. The next day I went to his reading of Zeroes, which was advertised in some places as a reading and in some places as a discussion (he is just as amusing in person as he is on Twitter, which may not be amusing at all if that's not your thing but *I* laughed) and ended up loaning him my copy of Zeroes to read from since the desription he'd looked at hadn't included the reading thing. Yeah I don't know. I looked at the descrip a bunch of different places and could see no rhyme or reason to it, I went because I was curious and it was sure to be entertaining.

I met Tom Mison, and we spoke briefly about history and learning and how wonderful it was. Got his autograph. I met John Noble and we spoke about physics and maths and online learning and how much fun it was. Got his autograph. I met Nicholas Lea and we talked at length about DragonCon and oh god so tired and he'd been up till three in the morning drinking and having fun and the X-Files revival and everything. I got to talk to him for a while, comparatively, because he had no line. Who else. Neil! Neil Napier, I got to talk to him for a while, I got an autograph from him for myself and for [personal profile] lireavue and told him we'd be blogging that, gave him my card, had loads of fun there. Generally, lots of fun with the autograph lines.

I also got to moderate a panel! Incredibly. That was... weird, it was my last panel, the Flash panel and on a Sunday, so we were all kind of tired. And there was no moderator. And someone from the track table started to come up, and I was all "Oops, Mom and Dad are home again" jokingly, but he waved me off and was just there to check the mics, I think? And was all "Nah, you guys are on your own." Ulp. So, I ended up calling for introductions and everyone's favorite scene (which of course I had no fucking clue what my favorite scene in The Flash was, so I picked one I really liked and called that my favorite) and off we went. Taking questions, I think I managed to get if not everybody, then most of everybody who had a question? There was one hilarious moment when I called on the guy in the black shirt with glasses, then realized both he and the other guy who'd had his hand raised had black shirts and glasses, so I told them to throw chops (rock-paper-scissors) for it. AND THEY DID. And it was amazing. But I think everyone had a fun panel, even if I was scared as hell to bring up the race thing last. (for those who don't watch the show, the main [white] character's foster father is played by Jesse L Martin, a black dude, I think a black dude who was a white dude in the comics, and never in the show is it remarked upon. It's just a thing that is, and Joe's an amazing foster father who talks to and listens to Barry, and so on and so forth. And as a kid of a multi-racial family, that was good to see.) And someone ELSE brought up the police captain's fiance issue and how that was never remarked upon as strange or different either, just a thing that is. So I think that went over well. Both my Arrow and Flash panels were actually a lot of fun. The Haven panel ... less well organized.

So. Um. Yeah! That all happened. There was a lot of walking around. There were at least half a dozen to a dozen Abby's this year, which is weird because last year there was only me and maybe one other, and I don't think anything changed from last year to this? Who the hell knows. But one Abby had brought a Gibbs, that was fun. And. No, in general, I had a lot of fun. Oh! And I got to talk to the dwarves, the ones who showed up, about my America Chavez costume and the movies and how profoundly it affected people and capturing the spirit as opposed to the actual words, and so on and so forth. Mostly with Gloin, but some with Bombur and Fili. It was quite a lot of fun to be talking with them, they were all total sweeties.

And that happened. And then my bus ended up being almost two hours late on the way back and I finally collapsed, got to go in to work late today, so, um. Stuff. Things. Still tired. Not going to capoeira on Wed as I recover, I think. Need to make sure to get at least an extra hour of sleep per night for the next couple nights. But totally, totally worth it.
