So, I got in to work and did some breaking up of wax from giant slabs into pieces people are more likely to need (we do sell wax in giant slabs too, but we don't need to keep it all that way) and sat down to check Twitter and enter some mail orders. And wouldn't you know it but my Twitter feed is full of Franzen. This is like being full of shit, where the shit has arranged itself into geometrically and visually aesthetically pleasing piles and is insisting it possesses neither odor not unpleasant texture. It is still shit, it still stinks, and no one wants to touch it. It turns out Franzen was considering adopting an Iraqi orphan to figure out young people. I have no idea where to even begin listing all the things wrong with that statement, let alone the odds of that turning out very well for the poor orphan. Thanfully, his editor suggested he go talk to a nice group of university graduates instead, who would not be dependent upon him not only for food and shelter but also guidance, stability, approval and support, and emotional availability, none of which I suspect Franzen is capable of providing.

Actually, this entire article is fairly cringeworthy. If I have to suffer, so do you. Or you could not click on it, but there it is. He continues to miss many points and think he is a gift to women and feminism without actually understanding that feminism and allyship (co-conspirator-ship?) is something you do, not a quality you can take upon yourself by saying so.

Pretentious little shit. The sad thing is I will expound on him for at least a couple paragraphs and if I were ever to meet him I'd probably smile, nod, and find someone else to talk to because he just doesn't seem that interesting to interact with or read or anything else.

Anyway. I finally got a start on my Blasted Lands timeline this morning! And I think I managed to figure out some other stuff, albeit not where I can start printing off this stuff where I'm not chewing through huge amounts of black printer ink and/or ending up with big toner streaks all over it. This is aggravating. Kind of tempted just to get a toner printer for black and white shit later, at least if I'm going to keep doing this. Not sure where though, or how to get toner refills. Things to ask people about.

Oof. I had expected from the amount of work at the start of the day that the day would be quiet, and yet no. So I guess it's power up and be as efficient as possible time. I mean, on the one hand at least I got a decent amount of sleep and had a fair sized lunch. On the other hand oh dear god I hate being uber-efficient and squeezing every bit of time out of the day that I can. And I have writing shit to do, I have Dragon*Con shit to think about doing and organize so when I get home I can do it, and I have other other other shit to do like cleaning, work stuff, whatever. Aaaugh.

(Maybe it won't be as bad as I think. Maybe. I can hope.)

3. Helix (5 minutes)
4. Haven 2x05 (10 minutes)

7. Outline some of the other shit
8. And if you really need some writing things that are not WL, drabble some of the magic for either Malachy or Nerd Girls.
9. Tailor blue shirt, side seams and possibly shoulder darts.
10. Polish boots
11. Calculate all dates on the arts listings supp document for WL against an actual calendar.
12. Paint America Chavez shirt.
13. Touch up front and back stripes on America Chavez jacket.
14. Finish one bracelet sample
15. Cut out pieces for composition book cover.
16. Look into large item trash pickup talk to boy about what day, possibly Monday, the number is on your phone IN TEXT MESSAGES.
17. Check hotel amenities: fridge or no fridge it is! snack accordingly

oh gods that Frazen thing blew up my timeline too.

maybe Frazen is really Rudyard Kipling reincarnate, and the whole "adopt Iraqi war orphan to understand the young people" is just some incredibly fucked up 21st century white man's burden. or maybe he just really *wants* to be Kipling. I have not read much of either one's writing, because I have better people to read that don't make me want a flame thrower.

Kipling at least has rhythm and some musicality in his writing, whereas as far as I can tell without throwing a book I don't own across the room Franzen doesn't even have that.

Other than that there's not much to choose from between the two.
