Mar. 25th, 2015 02:18 pmThis is officially the ugliest yarn it has ever been my displeasure to knit a sample of. Wow. It's ropy, it's made up of at least ten small strands that aren't plied in any meaningful sense of the word, more like netted. They want me to use a size 17 needle which, no. Fuckoff. And it's apparently 31 yards to the ball, which, what the hell. It's a pain in the ass to knit, although to be fair that could also be the plastic needles, since I'm on borrowed needles since I left my big set at home. But you'll still need at least 4 balls to do anything, which, again, what the hell.
[pause for snickers from the dirty-minded]
In addition to that, though, we got some much nicer yarns in, like Manos Serena and this strange stuff called Helix which, apart from giving me fits of thinking about the TV show (it doesn't help that some of these colorways look like very weird DNA helix models) feels like it might be really nice to knit.
After three tries I think I might have finally managed to get some of White Lightning started. I am never going to get it finished in time for Beltane, you guys, I mean maybe if I took off every day of work between now and then, but then I also wouldn't be able to eat. So I guess my brain can stop freaking out about that. I'll work on getting the other stories written, and then figure out my timeline from there, and that way I don't get murdered in my sleep. And I think it's helping my anxiety and I-suck-ness, whatever the technical term for that, that I am working on other stuff for publication.
At least I hope it is, I don't want to look at that too closely and fall over.
And then the boy jammed his fingers today, or possibly broke them but he's thinking more likely jammed, I'll see if the swelling's gone up or down when I get home, I guess. So I might end up doing all the paint chipping away work this weekend. Which I was kind of resigned to doing anyway because day/night schedule, or... well, no, because I can sleep in the guest room too. Hell. I don't know. I have no idea what's going to happen, that's just one more minor irritation lately.
And then I've once again been going a bit nuts on the online classes. There's the CSS/HTML class I've been taking, and I'm almost done with that, to be fair. Khan academy doesn't have time limits so I could just put down physics at any point, but the Restoration (American Civil War) class doesn't actually take that much time and is fascinating, I just have to make time for it. But then I also signed up for a course on Superheroes in a little over a month, a tutorial on Bootstrap (we can blame E for that) and a potential course on Creating Powerful Political Messages and Framing that may or may not be useful for other purposes, I have yet to see.
Really, I just need to put some of the shit I'm doing now. But it's all so exciting and I want to do everything and argh.
(Word counts and other things to be updated later.)
