And over to page 39 and I have read three, three complex sentences in Russian on my own! Also I found this thing, um:

Эта мысль тоже приходила мне в голову. Which Google has as: That thought also crossed my mind.
Эта мысль = That thought = literal? I believe so.
тоже = too/also, no mystery there
приходила = arrived/come?
мне = to me
в голову = into head

So, okay, yeah, the thought had also crossed my mind is more direct than same semantic meaning though it obviously shares semantic meaning, look, I'm rambling, okay? It just helps me get the language in my head easier. But anyway. That is a phrase that I should remember because it will be more useful than one of the other sentences I read, which was Иной может быть вампиров или оборотнем... или может не быть. I mean, the structure of that is useful to casual conversation. But I don't think I'm going to encounter many werewolves or vampires. Unless I go to a convention. Hmm. Anyway. Victory!

Sleepy already. And we seem to have inadvertently acquired a couple of projects for the weekend! Which is to say, projects in the main house, because fuck no way am I cutting boards for my pressing table this weekend. At best it'll be barely above freezing, and that garage is not heated. Though insulating it might be a project for the summer, with tearing down drywall and putting up new and doing something about the goddamn leak from the skylight. No, this weekend's projects are planting seedlings for spring and cleaning out/fixing up the bathtub upstairs. Which is apparently to say, caulking it, because the boy says he's discovered some cracks. Fair 'nuff. Then I can take hot baths and hot showers UPSTAIRS and not have to trudge to the cold downstairs till I absolutely want to. Yay!

In the meantime, tonight is so very about curling up with TV and some fiber and a pile of blankets because fuck it's cold. And it's going to be the coldest night of the week, I think. Hey, at least we have temperatures above zero. Apparently in at least Minnesota if not Wisconsin there wasn't a single area that had temperatures above zero at daybreak this morning.

I need one of those t-shirts that says "The Starks Were Right" on it or something. If I thought it'd get here in time I'd buy a Stark flag just to hang it outside my house. .... Hey. I have large swatches of fabric and silver paint. Hmmmmmmm.

Yeah, that phrase is almost direct translation... just using the semantically equivalent verb. Crossed, versus arrived.

And ahaha yes. Anton's speech works fine for colloquial phrasing, if not ... with the usual terms.

That thing there. That's why my brain flagged it as not direct translation.

Anton's turning into a veritable gold mine of "Ooh, phrases normal people use." Shotgun wedding, thinking phrases, etc.

I am very impressed that google is good enough to match the turn of phrase to turn of phrase rather than translate literally, I have to admit. And a little worried.

Don't worry; that's the exception more than the rule. Usually I have to take what gtranslate gives me back and apply decades of translation/interpretation/language learning experience to sort out what's actually going on in the original Russian. I just use it as a quicker dictionary, basically.
