Near and far:
The expressions for these are given below. They involve the prepositions do (to), le (with), and ó (from), which combine with an (the) as follows:
do + an -- don + lenition
ó + an -- ón + eclipsis
le + an -- leis an + eclipsis

Cóngarach do (near to)

Tá sé congarach do Chorcaigh. It is near to Cork.
Tá sé cóngarach don bhanc. It is near to the church. (Wot. No. That is near to the BANK.)
Tá sé cóngarach d'Oifig an Phoist.
Tá sé cóngarach duit. It is near to you.

In aice le (next to) (lit. in proximity with)
Tá sé in aice le Oifig an Phoist. It is next to the Post Office.
Tá sé in aice leis an mbanc. It is near to the bank.
Tá sé in aice leat. it is near to you.

I bhfad ó (far from) (lit. in length from)
Tá sé i bhfad ó Chontae na Mí. It is far from County Meath.
Tá sé i bhfad ón gcoláiste. It is far from the college.
Tá sé i bhfad ón áit seo. It is far from this place.
Tá sé i bhfad uait. It is far from you.

Trasna (across)
This puts a following noun in the genitive case.
an bóthar, trasna an bhóthair - across the road
an tsráid, trasna na sráide - across the street
an fharraige, trasna na farraige - across the sea
an pháirc, trasna na páirce - across the field


It's been so damn long since I've done any languages I have no idea where the hell I was in my Irish. Or anything. Bleh.

The boy's schedule is confusing the fuck out of me. And annoying me, as most confusing scheduling things do. This isn't in his control, which makes it better in that I don't feel the urge to yell at him until he writes this shit down, and worse because there isn't anything we can do to make it better, since it's due to dire circumstances with almost all his co-workers. Family members dying and court cases and the like.

Well, I feel better at least. Still coughing a bit, but overall better. Which is good because apparently the mail order sale hit while I was home sleeping it off, which means today I get to come in, pack and ship all the things! No writing for me, I'll be lucky to get a break where I can sit down and breathe and drink water. Which actually reminds me I should bring the water bottle to work today. It's going to be a jungle of a day, etc.

Which of course means I'm doing full workout instead of resting and just limbering up before I go to work. Because, what, masochist? Le sigh.

Apparently it was educating very young children about wool and spinning time. Well, hey, that works too. And now the phones seem to be back up but that was a very frustrating hour or so. (Matching icons of Deannoyance!)
