May. 21st, 2013 10:00 amAr siúl (underway, on)
This is used in various ways:
Cuir an solas ar siúl. Put the light on.
Tá an teilifís ar siúl. The television is on.
Tá an Nuacht ar siúl. The news is on. (being broadcast)
Cad tá ar siúl? What's up?

Cad tá ar siúl thall ansin? What's going on over there?
Níl aon rud ar siúl anseo. There is nothing happening here.
The various uses of le (with)
You have seen some of these already:
Cé bhí leat? Who was with you?
Bhí Máire liom. Máire was with me.
Bhuail mé le Seán. I met Sean.
Beidh mé ag caint leat arís. I'll be talking to you again.
Is maith liom caifé. I like coffee.
Is cuma liom faoi. I don't care about it.
And here are some additional uses.
Imigh leat! Go away.
D'imigh sé leis. He cleared off.
Chuaigh sé le polaitíocht. He got involved in politics.
Chuaigh sé le dlí. He began studying law.
Ollamh le dlí. A professor of law.
The usual way of referring to somebody by surname is to make an ordinary noun of the name by adding ach.
Bhí an Conallach anseo. O'Connell was here.
an Brianach. O'Brien
an Gearaltach. Fitzgerald.
... So THAT'S where that comes from.
Morning routines work much better when a) I don't wake up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason and b) I have internet with which to do and post my damn Irish homework. I'm just saying. I have no idea what the fuck is up with AT&T but they need to get their shit together, because apparently it's their equipment that keeps blurping out. Hopefully we can switch pretty soon. I would deeply enjoy that.
No, you know what, I'm having one of those mornings where none of the small things are going right. Whether it's my fault or someone/something else's fault, it's all just getting on my nerves and I want to pack it in, go home, and watch Mentalist till my ears bleed.
Instead, I am going to get back to doing one task at a time and try to complete them so I can beat this everything-getting-on-my-nerves thing into the ground. Like you do when you're a Courtesan. (It's just that all of my mess is right out there for you to read. Have fun.)
