The normal word order of Irish is verb-subject-object-adverbs, e.g
Chaith mé bliain i Meiriceá uair amháin. I spent a year in America once.

Greater emphasis may be placed on some part of the sentence by bringing it up to the front, in which case it is often preceded by is. The remainder of the sentence is then turned into a relative clause, and a (causing lenition) is placed before the verb. Compare these:

Chaith mé bliain i Meiriceá. I spent a year in America.
Is i Meiriceá a chaith mé bliain. It's in America that I spent a year.

Bliain a chaith mé i Meiriceá. It's a year I spent in America.
Mise a chaith bliain i Meiriceá. It's me who spent a year in America.

Here are some other examples:
Is iLuimneach a tógadh mé. It's in Limerick I was reared.
Is ann a chuaigh mé ar scoil. It's there I went to school.

This kind of fronting, with or without is, is very common in Irish and you will see further examples in later units.

When the object of a verb is a pronoun there is a tendency for that pronoun to come at the end of the sentence )provided the sentence is fairly short). This freedom of position does not extend to nouns, except by means of the fronting noted above.

Rugadh Seán i Meiriceá. Seán was born in America.
Rugadh é i Meiriceá. He was born in America.
or
Rugadh i Meiriceá é.

Tógadh mé i gCorcaigh. I was brought up in Cork.
or
Tógadh i gCorcaigh mé.

Somehow Thursday crept up on me and I haven't yet dumped G&M into email yet argh. I mean, at least there's still a fair bit of time to do it, but still argh. On the plus side we're halfway through Grimm already, even if all the back half is loaded with royal conspiracy bullshit. On the other other hand, I have tonight uninterrupted to work on it and Anna's blocked a good chunk of today off, so between the two of us we should be pretty damn able to work it.

It's weird. Today's the first day I've been both well enough and rested enough to do exercises. I haven't felt too much of a discernible effect, though that might be because between the exhaustion and illness all the various causes of feeling off are getting mixed up together. Still, I don't think it will be too hard to get back. I hope. I will try?

Even with that, actually, I've somehow managed not to put on all but half a pound of what I've lost in the last couple weeks. I don't understand it either. Weight loss, how the hell does it work. My number hasn't been this low in months.

Heading into Mentalist episodes I haven't seen yet, so this ought to be interesting. I have some vague notion of what happened after I stopped watching, but I'm not sure of any of the other little things and Red John. Ugh. And argh. And other such noises. Between this and the Person of Interest catch-up my brain is going to be reeling with conspiracies and players and it's all going to slop over into Grimm. So many damn moving pieces to take care of. I honestly don't know how I'm doing this. Apart from sheer luck.

Right. Time to get my tired ass moving, I guess.

YAY! And yeah, if you can brain a show... it still takes me about three or four hours to watch an episode.

Le sigh.
