The past tense is often used in Irish where the perfect would be used in English.
Chonaic mé an scannán sin. I have seen that film.
Chuala mé é sin. I have heard that.

When the Irish past tense corresponds to the English perfect it is often accompanied by adverbs such as cheana (already) and riamh (never).

Ní fhaca mé thú le tamall. I haven't seen you for some time.
Níor léigh mé riamh é. I have never read it.
Bhuail mé leo cheana. I have already met them.
Níor bhuail mé riamh léi. I have never met her.
Níor chaith mé tobac riamh. I have never smoked.

Verbal noun clauses correspond to the English infinitive (used in non-dictionary context). When there is no direct object the word order is the same as in English.

Ar mhaith leat fanacht anseo? Would you like to stay here?
Ar mhaith leat bualadh le Seán? Would you like to meat Seán?
Ar mhaith leat teacht linn? Would you like to come with us?
Ar mhaith leat bheith pósta? Would you like to be married?
Tá áthas orm bheith anseo. I am pleased to be here.
Tá áthas orm bualadh leat. I am pleased to meet you.
Tá áthas orm cabhrú leat. I am pleased to hep you.
Tá fonn orm dul abhaile. I am inclined to go home.
Tá fonn orm imeacht. I am inclined to leave.
Tá fonn orm éirí as. I am inclined to give up.

When there is a direct object the order is quite different: I am pleased to see you becomes, literally, I am pleased you to see.
Tá áthas orm tú a fheiceáil. I am pleased to see you.
Tá fonn orm post a fháil. I am anxious to get a job.
Ba mhaith liom post a fháil. I would like to get a job.
Ba mhaith liom teach a cheannach. I would like to buy a house.
Ba mhaith liom é a thriáil. I would like to try it.
Ba mhaith liom greim a ithe. I would like to eat a bite.
Ba mhaith liom braon tae a ól. I would like to drink a drop of tea.

Things are somewhat better today, thanks to the hormones moving on and having gotten some sleep last night. Back is still thoroughly tweaked, and one of these days I'll figure out a better way to handle that or maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Rewatched the Hobbit last night, and went to sleep with Thorin and Bofur singing in my head, because Armitage and Nesbitt are fucking unfair with the singing and the voice. Damn you Centralia, whyfor you so pretty in voice and manner and personality and aspect and face. And Nesbitt is just freaking scary, except when he sings, and then, nngh. And now I'm on a rewatch of the Extended Editions of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, just, watching it in bits and pieces where I can. Probably more on the weekend. We can blame this on I've never actually seen the Extended Edition of Return of the King, I don't know why I didn't get it before now but I finally got fed up with not having it. So, MANY HOURS of Middle Earth ahead of me, and that should sooth what emotional aches and pains yet remain.

Today's intent, another patch-up scene in Twisted Thread, and more White Lightning. And when I get home, more Person of Interest and then more fucking around because tonight is a girl's night in, which means scrubs and moisturizing and painting of nails and so on. And truffles. And rest, because god we need it. The boy will be off at game so it can just be girls and cats and hot men on TV. Definitely could use that right now.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!
