Cá becomes cár before verbs in the past tense.
Cá bhfanann tú? Where do you stay?
Cár fhan tú? Where did you stay?
Cá n-imíonn an t-airgead? Where does the money go?
Cár imigh an t-airgead? Where did the money go?
Here again irregular verbs do not use the form with -r:
Cá ndeachaig tú? Where did you go?
Cá bhfuair tú é sin? Where did you get that?
Type 1 verbs which end in a consonant take no ending in the past tense, for instance, pósann to phós. However, those which end in a final vowel take -igh like in type 2.
e.g.
suíonn to shuigh mé síos, I sat down. (pron. hí)
buann to bhuaigh sé duais. He won a prize. (pron. vua)
léann to Níor léigh mé é. I didn't read it. (pron. lé)
When -íonn is removed to form the past tense of Taitníonn (pleases) an í is inserted between the consonants. e.g.
Taitníonn sé liom. I enjoy it.
Thaitin sé liom. I enjoyed it.
Two other verbs which follow this pattern are imríonn (plays) and freastlaíonn (attends).
D'imir mé cluiche gailf inné. I played a game of golf yesterday.
D'fhreastail mé ar an léacht. I attended the lecture.
Also, tú usually becomes thú when it is the direct object.
Ní fhaca mé thú. I didn't see you.
Ní chloisim thú. I can't hear you.
Feicim anois thú. I see you now.
Did not get to bed as early last night as I wanted to, and still got to bed more exhausted than it seems like the day warranted. And didn't get nearly as much blogwork done as I wanted to, of both kinds. On the other hand, I did sleep in and I've got my Irish done now and all that remains of most of the morning before work is exercises, so I guess that's a win? We'll call that a win. Plus I don't think I mentioned that I got my Avengers movies briefcase yesterday. Ordered it back when it first was available for pre-order last, um. September? Earlier? It was a longass time ago, anyway. I have a business card from Phil Coulson. These props are so cute. And now I want to watch just all of the Coulson scenes now.
I did, at least, also finish the Subversive Mummies story, which now has a title as soon as I translate it. So that's out of edits and all that remains is the extra scenes in Twisted Thread and Blood in the Gutters. Which is nice. Also a little scary, come to think of it, now that that's coming along quicker than I thought. Also submitted a short story yesterday to another magazine, which is somehow still less terrifying than I expected. I think because I do have so many other irons in the fire that it's mostly, okay, cross that one off the list, next!
Or maybe I'm just tired. Every time one fire gets put out, another one seems to start. Maybe once I get into exercises I'll feel better.
Today's intent is mostly White Lightning and the story for the third market. If I'm feeling particularly lucky/capable I might start working on the missing scenes in Twisted Thread, but that's not on the schedule till next week anyway. When I get home it'll be blog work, both Murderboarding and Kitty Ipsum. Mostly writing for Murderboarding but I have a couple of essays I'd like to get up on Kitty Ipsum too. Life keeps churning on, whether I want it to or not. I really do think I'd like a day just to sit around on the couch and curl up with my books and my cats and not do or think about anything. But that won't happen till Sunday at the earliest.
So it goes.
