There are two expressions to say I want, both of which involve the personal forms of ó (from). I want a cup of tea can be translated in either of the following ways:
Tá cupán tae uaim. A cup of tea is from me.
Teastaíonn cupán tae uaim. A cup of tea is needed from me.

As the literal translation suggests the second of these can also mean I need a cup of tea. Here are the personal forms of ó:
uaim - from me
uait - from you
uaidh - from him
uaithi - from her
uainn - from us
uaibh - from you
uathu - from them

Here are some further examples, using both forms:
Teastaíonn milseáin ó na leanaí. The children want sweets.
An dteastaíonn aon rud eile uait? Do you need anything else?
An dteastaíonn cabhair uaibh? Do you need help?
Teastaíonn. I do (need).
Ní theastaíonn. I don't (need).
Teastaíonn mála siúcra uaim. I want/need a bag of sugar.
Cad tá uait? What do you want?
Cad eile atá uait? What else do you want?
An bhfuil aon rud eile uait? Do you want anything else?
Tá paicéad tae uaim. I want a packet of tea.

Note that the verb teastaíonn is used 'impersonally' so that the second sentence does not mean 'a cup of tea wants me'. That would be silly. (Also the personal form is in the first person singular, so.)

The preposition ó causes lenition.

Teastaíonn cupán tae ó Sheán. Seán wants a cup of tea.

Clauses containing the verbal noun come after uaim.
e.g. Teastaíonn uaim labhairt leat. I want/need to speak with you.
Teastaíonn uaim cóta a cheannach. I want to buy a coat.

This verb can also be used in the progressive tense.
e.g. Tá cupán tae ag teastáil uaim. I want a cup of tea.
Tá cabhair ag teastáil uaim. I want/need some help.

Young Iain Glen, too! Dear lord. And clean-shaven. That hasn't happened in several years. And not evil, though his state of mind is highly questionable, considering. It's all very odd, along with not-evil Tim Roth and not-evil Gary Oldman. I think the funniest part of all of this, though, is that the Shakespeare is completely normal. It's the fact that they're not playing bad guys that's weird. Oh, and Richard Dreyfuss is in here.

This is going to be a weird day. Hopefully not in the same manner that yesterday was a weird day, because I could do without the impending doom and overwhelming misanthropy. A little misanthropy is good for oneself, more than that is too much. And oh dear god I just looked up R&G and this was twenty five years ago almost. Eek. But, yes. A good night's sleep seems to have reset the whatever it was. So we'll see how today goes. Hopefully both more productively and more sedately/confidently.

Oh, right. In all the wacky I forgot. Today's statement of intent! One scene worth of Black Ice line edits at least, a conclusion on the damn submission, and working on web page templates for dopamine kicks just in case the sleep reset wasn't enough. I know I already have some, I just need to figure out which ones those are and clean them up so other people can use them. This evening, Haven Herald and PoI 1x05 recaplysis, because those I do need the episodes in front of me for. But if I get line edits and the story writing part done, I will have time to do both of those things tonight! This budgeting thing, both for time and money, how does it work again?
