This deserves a separate post of its own, and at least partly because the boyfiend (a Navy vet himself) was wondering why the hell it wasn't in any news articles today.
Today is the 71st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
I do kind of know how the boy feels, because every April 19th I get incredibly twitchy, too, and no one seems to publicly remember Oklahoma City anymore. But I remember, because I remember being scared for my mother and I remember that that was the day I stopped being able to walk into her work, wave to the security guards, and go on up to her office.
There are any frillion number of things that can be written and have been written on the politics of the situation, the consequences that followed, the rocky relations between the two countries in the decades since, etc etc. I don't have anything approaching that eloquence today, so I'll leave it at this, and you can commemorate it as you choose, or not at all. But I'll leave this here for those of you to whom it's important, including my boy.
