1, The Japanese language is interesting and our teacher is good, therefore I like my Japanese class. 日本語がおもしろいし、先生はいいし、私は日本語の授業が好きです。
2. There are many languages and the exercises are small, therefore I like Memrise. たくさん外国語だし、れんしゅうもんだい小さいし、 Memriseは好きです。
3. I spoke Spanish at home and I studied Spanish in school, so Spanish is easy for me. 家でスペイン語が話したし、学校でスペイン語が勉強したし、 スペイン語がかんたんなです。
4. The recipe looked easy, and I like potatoes, so I tried making it. (combines with ~てみる) つくりかたがかんたんそうですし、ポテトが好きだし、作りって見ました。
5. I was tired and the fridge was empty, so we went to a restaurant. Crap and now I can't do hiragana on this setting. Ugh. Ooh, but I can write this down and then put it into kana and kanji handwritten. Tsukareteimashitashi, karanoreizokoda (?)shi, restaurantniikimashita.
6. The room is big and there is no furniture, so I will paint it this week. heyahaookiishi, kagugajanaidashi, konshuu penkiwonurimasu.
7. There are many characters and the plots are convoluted, so I will make a chart. takusantoujoujinbutsudashi, arasujigafukuzatsudashi, zushishimasu./zuwokikimasu?
8. Earless was stupid and returned to Portland and threatened Nick, so Nick killed him.
9. The keyboard is difficult and the vocabulary is strange, so I do not use Memrise in Japanese. kiboudogakimuzukashiishi, goigahendashi, Memrisedenihongogabenkyoushimasen.
10. Chinese is difficult and there are many dialects of Chinese, so I will not study on my own. chyugokugatanoshishi, takusanhougendashi, hitoridebenkyoushimasen.
Comments such as it's a fine day or it's bad weather are concerned mainly with the quality expressed by the adjective. It would be possible to translate them into Irish as Is lá breá é, Is aimsir olc í, but the adjective is usually brought forward for extra emphasis (in addition an is inserted before the noun); this requires the adjective to be preceded by the copula Is:
Is breá an lá é. It's a fine day. (Lit. Is fine the day he? ish)
Is breá an oíche í. It's a fine night.
Is dona an lá é. It's a bad day.
Is maith an aimsir í. It's good weather.
Is olc an aimsir í. It's terrible weather.
Notice how é or í is used according to the gender of the noun. This word order is also used for more general comments:
Is mór an trua é. It's a great pity. (Thank you, Jareth.)
Is ait an rud é. It's a strange thing.
Is bocht an scéal é. It's bad news. (Lit. It's a poor story.)
The last of these may be used to sympathise on a bereavement. The negative ní is sometimes used in this way.
Ní maith an rud é. It isn't a good thing.
A negative question is formed with nach:
Nach breá an aimsir í? Isn't it great weather?
Nach ait an rud é? Isn't it a strange thing?
Nach maith an rud é? Isn't it just as well?
Tired. Did not manage to get as much sleep as I wanted thanks to cats, but did at least manage to get in the full range of kicks and dear god I am out of kicking practice. Which just means I need to do more of it, obviously. I'm a month late on getting started on spring training, such as it is, at LEAST. So ready to be done with this house shit just so I can stop getting derailed on every goddamn routine ever.
Someone give me something pithy to say. Actually, I've still been turning over the 100 things blogging challenge, but I can't think of anything to blather about. I suppose I could do 100 random things about languages, but, eh.
There's a sizable dearth of things incoming today, possibly a dearth of things outgoing, we'll see. Hopefully that means I'll be awake enough and have enough time to do some writing in between minor tasks. So much fanfic I want to finish sometime this week or next, between original fiction. So little brainpower. Too much stress. Would anyone want this big ball of stress I seem to be carrying around?
On the plus side, weekend coming up. Yaaaay.
Alcatraz cancelled. Booooo. Once Upon A Time renewed. Some day I'll go back and actually watch the last several episodes. Today is not that day. I will scream and tear my hair and throw things and bitch about bad writing and get distracted attempting to rewrite all the damn dialogue myself so it is less cheesy. That is not productive. Or any kind of necessary catharsis.
In conclusion, thank Grimm it's Friday.
