Every time I see that scene I wonder, what was he doing up there? Was he just like, "Hm, I'm bored. Think I'll go play on the ceiling now!" Maybe he's got an escape tunnel up there. Or a secret stash of whatever he keeps in his flask. And yeah, the fact that he stayed in jail-- hell, the fact that he allowed himself to be caught in the first place-- tells me that he'd always planned to end up a victim of the curse. There's gotta be something in it for him when it's broken.

Just not Granny's shoulder. Granny will either put on her best "I told you so" face and give Ruby a stern lecture, or march over to Gold's shop and tear him a new one. Possibly both.
