I only really know this because I went to film school, which sounds a lot more fun than it actually was. At least after the first year.
Crappy action movies indeed have their own rules. Sometimes you just want to go see something with lots of explosions, yanno? Which is one of the ways I've justified seeing all three Transformers movies.
