I tried to read the first of the Song of Ice and Fire books. I gave up... less than 200 pages in. Not that it was written badly, from I could tell. GRRM just did things with his characters that I wanted to be no part of. At all. Ever. I... may have a problem with empathizing a bit too close to fictional people...
