When giving directions or issuing commands, it is often possible to use either the expression of necessity you already know (Вам надо проехать одну остановку.) or the imperative (command) form of the verb (Проезжайте одну остановку). You have already learned a number of imperatives as vocabulary items: Скажите! Извините! Простите! Идите!

Find the third-person plural stem of the verb by removing the ending.
IF: stem ends in vowel, THEN: add -й
IF: stem ends in a consonant and the stress in the first person singular is on the ending, add stressed -и
IF: stem ends in a consonant ANDIF the stress in the first person singular is NOT on the ending, THEN: -ь

1. The commands given above are familiar forms. To make them formal forms, simply add -те
2. To form the imperative of reflecive verbs, follow the steps above as if the verb did not have the particle, then add the reflexive suffix as per usual.
3. Because language is a bitch, these are the exceptions:
выйти -- выйди(те)
поехать -- поезжай(те)
давать -- давай(те)
дать -- дай(те)
есть -- ешь(те)

2. отвечать (отвечаю, отвечаешь, отвечает, отвечаем, отвечаете, отвечают) - отвечай(те)
3. играть (играю, играешь, играет, играем, играете, играют) - играй(те)
4. делать (делаю, делаешь, делает, делаем, делаете, делают) - делай(те)

I've discovered something entertaining about myself when I'm editing other people's stuff. My instinct to correct runs way ahead of my ability to find proper words. I can highlight something and go "this is weak! Needs to be stronger!" or something, but ask me to specifically explain why and I start stammering. Double points if it's grammar. I spent a chunk of yesterday geeking out over calling something an appositive, realizing I had no idea what the actual definition of an appositive was, looking it up, starting to type a correction, then realizing that it actually wasn't an appositive after all and correcting the correction. Then erasing it all and writing in something that was hopefully clearer.

I do, however, fill pages and pages with red. A lot of red. Even in computer documents it's full of red. I have three red pens in the folder where I have my PolyBigBang manuscript for editing it. Because I keep using them up. Maybe at some point I'll scan in a copy of what one of my manuscripts looks like when I'm done with it. It's labor intensive, but I think it makes it better. And oh my god the red.

Speaking of Red, I should go see that this weekend.

Right. Today, editing and running around like a chicken with my head cut off helping people get ready for the shows this weekend. Tomorrow... probably more of the same. If I'm lucky I'll get in some spinning time. I don't think I'm going to be that lucky, though.
