Es ist Samstag und Gisela hat Besuch von Monika und Stefan aus Berlin. Die kennen Tübingen noch nicht, also gehen sie zusammen einkaufen. Gisela nimmt Einkaufstasche und Geld und die drei gehen in die Stadt. Gisela braucht Kaffee, Butter, Marmelade, und Apelsaft. Die kauft sie im Supermarkt doch den Käse kauft sie im türkischen Lebensmittelgeschäft. Dort ist es interessant. Es gibt so viele exotische Produkte. Der türkische Laden ist klein und dort ist es nicht so unpersönalich wie im Supermarkt. Hier kent man Gisela und Herr Özmir sagt "Guten Morgen, Frau Riedholt. Was bekommen Sie denn heute?"
It is Saturday and Gisela has Monika and Stefan over from Berlin. They don't know Tübingen very well yet, therefore they go shopping together. Gisela takes the shopping bag and money and the three of them go into the city. Gisela buys coffee, butter, marmalade, and apple juice. They shop in the supermarket but the cheese they look for in the Turkish market. There, it is interesting. They have many exotic products. The Turkish store is small and it isn't so impersonal there as in the supermarket. [Something something?] and Herr Özmir says "Good morning, Frau Riedholt. What brings you here today?"
"Ich brauche Schafkäse und Oliven. Haben Sie heute den tollen Käse aus de Türkei?"
"I'd like to buy Schafkäse and olives. Do you have the strange [lit. crazy? really?] from Turkey, today?"
"Ja, naturlich. Wie viel brauchen Sie denn?"
"Yes, of course. How much would you like?"
"Hmmm, ich glaube ein Pfund. Ich habe Besuch aus Berlin und die essen gern und viel. Dann noch bitte 200 Gramm Oliven. Die da finde immer so is gut."
"A pound, I think. I have guests from Berlin and they like to eat, and lots! And 200 grams olives, please. That is always good."
"Ja, die sind fantastich. Haben Sie sonst noch einen Wunsch?"
"Yes, that is very good. Is there anything else you'd like?" [lit: have you anything else a wish? roughly]
"Nein, danke, Herr Ömzir. Das ist alles für heute."
"No, thank you, Herr Ömzir. That's all for today."
Gisela bezahlt und sie gefen auf den Markt. Sie kaufen Karotten und ein Kilo Kartoffeln fürs Abendessen. Der Fischmann ist auch da. Hier kaufen sie frischen Fisch. Den essen sie auch zum Abendessen. Dann gehen sie noch zu einem Blumenstand. Es gibt Rosen -- die findet Gisela so schön.
Gisela pays and goes to the market. She buys carrots and a kilo of potatoes for dinner. The fishmonger [not literally?] is also there. Here she buys fresh fish. They will also eat that for supper. Then she also goes to the flower stand. They have roses -- Gisela likes these very much. [lit. Gisela finds these very nice?]
"Gisela, die Rosen bezahle ich aber," sagt Monika.
"But Gisela, I bought some roses..." says Monika [yes/no? argh]
Die drei gehen jetzt zur Bäckerei Lieb. Gisela ruft "Oh je, es ist ja schon fast ein Uhr. Bald schließen die Geschäfte. Stefan, geh du bitte in die Bäckerei und kauf zehn Bröchten. Wir gehen zur Metzgerei Zeeb gegenüber. Hier Stefan, nimm die Tasche!"
The three go now to the backery. Gisela cries "Oh, it is already almost one o'clock. The businesses close soon. Stefan, please go to the backery and get ten rolls. We'll go to the butcher's across from here. [something?]
In der Metzgerei kaufen Gisela und Monika noch Fleisch und Wurst. Dort treffen sie David aus Washington. Er findet die deutsche Wurst so gut und kauft ziemlich viel. David fragt Gisela "Sag mal, wo bekomme ich in Tübingen eigentlich Vitamintabletten? In der Apotheke sind die ja furchtbar teuer!"
In the butcher's Gisela and Monika buy meat and wurst. There they meet David from Washington. He finds the German wurst so good and buys it often [?]. David asks Gisela, "Hey, where can I go in Tübingen to buy vitamins? In the apothecary's they are very expensive!"
"Geh zur Drogerie Kaiser. Dort sind sie billig. Ach, ich brauche ja auch Vitamintabletten. Ich habe keine mehr."
"Go to the drug store. There they are cheap. Ah, I'll buy them too. I don't have any..."
"Warum nimmst du denn Vitamintabletten?" fragt Monika. "Bist du krank?"
"Why are you taking vitamins?" asks Monika. "Are you sick?"
"Oh nein, ich nehme schon lange Vitamintabletten und jetzt bin ich nicht mehr so oft krank!"
"Oh, no, I take [something something?] vitamins and now I am not so often sick!"
Vor der Metzgerei steht Stefan mit den Bröchten. "Hmm, die riechen gut! Jetzt aber schnell nach Hause. Ich habe einen Riesenhunger und Durst!"
Outside the butcher's stands Stefan with the rolls. "Hey, that smells good! Now let's go home quickly. I'm very hungry and thirsty!"
