Today I have learned that you should, in fact, attach the neck facing type things to the neck opening before sewing the shoulder and side seams, i.e. the back to the front.
I'm watching Mona Lisa Smile. It's reminding me eerily of things that are going on now -- the contraceptives passed out in school thing, that is. I'm also struck by the eerie notion that I actually know a lot of the kinds of things they teach at finishing school. How to speak, pose. Sew, cook. Clean house. What I don't know is how to smile and be nice without making my brain explode. I'd've been one of those horrible pants-wearing liberals back then, I think. I can't keep my mouth shut sometimes, even when I should.
I've started in on that Jayne/River series of shorts that I was telling some of you about. More on that later, I suppose. I'll post them later.
I do like sewing, though. To go back to an original topic. I like sewing, cooking, cleaning. A lot of the domestic things. Which is kind of odd. Except, I suppose, that to do a thing because one likes it is a worthy pasttime. Whereas to do a thing because it is one's role in life is stupid. Bleh. I need more sleep, or perhaps more food, or something. As I keep typing things out and only once I've gotten to the next sentence I realize that the words I typed out weren't in the proper order for English. I haven't yet stopped to see if it makes grammatical, syntactical sense in any other language.
Back to the shirt, I suppose. And the damn collar and cuffs. The sleeves are easy, and then I hem. And then I put the eyelets in, and then I've a finished pirate shirt. That's way too big for me. Oi. Later today, I will get the smaller damn pattern.
