Aug. 22nd, 2018 03:42 pmGoing to attempt to get back into the habit of posting here regularly again, although with the chest cold and DragonCon prep and various other things I haven't felt much in the mood to. What's been going on in my life.
Not much. Cassius remains present for every regular meal, which is very reassuring, evidently he is back for good, or as good as an outdoor cat can be here for. He's skittish, but he's here, that's the important thing. He's being fed and watered regularly, he's being cared for, the bite is healing, and he remains our adorable Cassius.
DragonCon prep is pretty much done except for packing. The medkit is assembled, messily but assembled. The costumes have been chosen, the author copy of books have been ordered just in time to get here so I can carry them down, yikes. Travel snacks have been picked up. I have all my tech toys: batteries, kindle, phone, a tablet that can be charged from a USB-Micro USB cable that I picked up just in time because my laptop screen failed in a spectacularly colorful way. It still displays, but oh boy howdy are those colors wrong. I think it might be a hardware problem; I did one system rollback to an earlier restore point and it didn't fix a damn thing. I could always try that again, but it's also a three year old laptop. And I'm using my desktop a lot more now.
I should actually pack my costumes at some point this week so I don't have to deal with it the night before. The food can go too. I have an appointment to refresh my hair and get it trimmed before I go, which will be very nice.
Other than that, what have I been doing? Edits, I got the Tor submission in just under the wire, Jude will probably be the same because first I was recovering from the one edits and then I was recovering from the chest cold. I've been watching TV for panels: Luke Cage and The Punisher and I have to watch Legion now...
... Okay, but listen, if you're coming to DragonCon you may need to come to my The Punisher panel and listen to me giggle like a freaking maniac. I'm fairly sure I've told this story before. I did not realize this when I first started watching, and most of the time I was tucked into bed on the couch sleep deprived and full of flu virus so I wasn't paying attention very well. The boy was watching most of it. But at some point during this mess we were also watching Bill Nye and I said he'd attended my high school. Not while I was there, but in the past. The boy didn't believe me, so I looked up the wiki for it. Turns out the actor who plays the Punisher also went to my high school. He was a senior while I was a freshman, so I probably knew him. This gives me the giggles every time that show comes up for a while, until I start rewatching it for the panel and then I realized something. Mostly I realized something because I saw an earlier photo of his, but I realized, shit. That's the guy I actually did know from high school. He hung out with some of the friends I'd made in high school. I knew I recognized his baby brother's name either from my class or the class ahead of me, I honestly can't remember which. But now I remember him, I remember his face (which has always to an extent looked like that, yes) and I remember a bunch of my other friends, all in acting or acting tech, and ... it's a trip. Let me tell you. I had weird dreams about high school the other night from finally managing to slot him into a context of wait, I do fucking remember this guy.
So yeah, I'm going to be giggling all through my Punisher panel. It's going to be awkward. Luke Cage is going to get interesting, I liked the second season, the villain used capoeira! That was awesome to notice. And I have to watch Legion, and I have an Altered Carbon panel that I picked up the novel for even though I know, I know, it's about the tv series. Which I have seen although I wouldn't mind a rewatch.
That's most of the news that's fit to print. I'll save some stuff for tomorrow, and I need to get my ass moving on that thing to submit to Fireside. But other than that. Gearing up for DragonCon, yay. And trying to remain calm. And getting yet another dosage increase on my thyroid medication, dear gods why.
